Scam artist hitting Harvey County claiming to be with the IRS

NEWTON, Kan. – Scam artist are still trying to get money out of residents and the Harvey County Sheriff’s office is warning residents to not fall for it.

They say that they have been getting a lot of calls from people who report getting calls from a person identifying themselves as an IRS agent. This person tell their intended victims that they owe money to the IRS and if it isn’t paid right away the sheriff will be coming out to arrest them.

They reported that one person this week was afraid the threat was true and was about to write out a check for over $4,000.00. Luckily they called the sheriff’ office before sending the check out.

They say this person has been calling lots of people in Harvey County and also within the city of Newton.

Just a reminder, this is a scam and sheriff officials remind you to keep your money and identification safe. Don’t give out anything to these scam artist and report such calls to your local law enforcement agency.
