The Hutchinson school Board Monday evening adopted an updated local and state technology plans.

Thanks to a commitment from district voters beginning with a bond issue in 2000, the district has been a leader in technology hardware. With the updated plan, more resources will be placed in support for the hardware and software tools provided to students and staff.

Also during Monday’s meeting, the board received an update from Superintendent Shelly Kiblinger on the new Kansas accreditation model. Historic accreditation models looked at the resources available for education.

The newer accreditation models focus more on how those resources are used to advance student achievement. Accreditation now looks more at the continuous improvement of a district, not unlike the AdvancED accreditation process through which the district has gone.

In other action, the board, approved an out-of-state student activity request for a band trip to Chicago in the spring. Band students will raise money for the trip.

They also approved second floor security cameras for the Hutchinson Career and Technical Education Academy, metal covers to install over old exterior panel units at Hutchinson and the purchase of iPad tablets for McCandless Elementary School and HHS from 2011 bond money.

They also met in executive session for 30 minutes to meet with district counsel.
