SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Mennonite Friendship Communities Benefit Auction raised more than $37,250 for nursing home residents who have outlived their resources.

Rain clouds cleared just in time for the annual Benefit Day auction on Oct. 11. The quilt auction earned nearly $3,000, while the gift baskets brought in $1,542.

The raffle for an airline ticket earned $960.

A handcrafted carousel, made by resident Paul Unruh, went for $275. Other notable items were sand plum jelly – $22.50 per jar; child’s toy barn – $160; apple cider – $35 per gallon; Kitchen Aid mixer – $330; Stihl chainsaw – $400; and dinner for two at Mary Emma Zook – $85.

All proceeds from the sale benefit the continuing care endowment fund, which helps to defray living costs for nursing home residents who have outlived their resources.
