Accident involving an ATV sends Mt. Hope man to a Wichita Hospital.

An accident in the county early Sunday morning injured one and sent another to jail.

Sheriff Randy Henderson says deputies were sent to the accident around 5:30 a-m, in the area of Parallel and Victory Roads.

Apparently there had been a gathering at a house on south Victory Road. Three individuals left the house on ATVs and only one had lights. Derek Horsch who hosted the gathering at his home, decided to get in his Chevy truck and try and catch up with them to provide light for them.

Scott Smith, of Mt Hope was on one of the ATVs and was stopped in the roadway on a bridge and Horsch ran into the back of the ATV knocking Smith off.

Smith was transported by Midwest Lifeteam helicopter to a Wichita hospital.

Horsch was not injured, however he was arrested for Aggravated. Battery, and Driving under the influence of alcohol and illegal transportation of an alcoholic beverage.
