A 29-year-old man who gave police no real address when he was arrested Friday on multiple charges associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine, theft, possession of stolen property and criminal damage to property made a first appearance on the charges Monday.

Benjamin Prouty told Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen that he’s being wrongly charged with meth manufacturing, but the judge stated that they found a number of items that would be consistent with the manufacture of meth, including such items as a propane tank, starting fluid, pvc pipe, Sudafed, just to name a few.

The case starts with the report of a white male shoplifting at K-Mart at 1320 East 30th, in Hutchinson which led to the searching the vehicle he was allegedly driving and finding items consistent with the manufacture of a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine.

The 1999 Ford Taurus which he was allegedly driving had previously been reported stolen and was returned to the owner, according to police. Prouty also told the judge during his Monday morning court appearance that he knew nothing of the items to produce meth, which were apparently found in the trunk of the vehicle.

He’s now jailed on a bond of 57-thousand, 750-dollars and Judge McEwen refused to lower it during the court hearing Monday. He should be back in court on Wednesday.

Prouty was recently discharged from a convictions for aggravated assualt, possession of drugs, and theft for cases out of Rice County, that was on October 17.
