A 21-year-old Hays man was arrested on suspicion of rape and aggravated criminal sodomy following an incident alleged to have occurred Tuesday night at a Hays residence.

According to Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler, officers from the Hays Police Department responded to a report of a sexual assault at 9:30 p.m. Dec. 9.

When officers arrived, a woman reported she had been sexually assaulted by an acquaintance.

Scheibler said Shae Gager, 21, Hays, was arrested near the residence shortly after officers responded.

Gager remains in custody in an Ellis County jail facility.

Scheibler said a report of the incident will be forwarded to the Ellis County Attorney’s office for possible prosecution.
