Suspect wounded in Kansas police shooting dies

Police ShootingWICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the deadly shooting of a 23-year-old man after an altercation with Wichita police.

Police Lt. James Espinoza says the shooting happened Saturday night while two officers were responding to a disturbance report at a home. The Wichita Eagle reports that the officers told the 23-year-old man and a 44-year-old man to get out of a parked SUV. Espinoza said the 23-year-old man engaged in a “verbal exchange” with the officers when he was outside the vehicle.

Espinoza said one officer used a stun gun on the man while the other officer shot him twice in the lower abdomen. The man was taken to a Wichita hospital, where he later died. The man’s name wasn’t released, and it wasn’t immediately known whether he was armed.
