According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Curtis J. Shoenberger, 42, of Hays was driving northbound on West 700 Road, just south of the K9 intersection (2 miles west of Speed) around 8:30 yesterday when his ’02 F-150 left the roadway into the west ditch, traveled through a field and struck a tree.

He was found deceased outside of the vehicle. The cause of death is listed as undetermined.
