South Hutch City Council Seat Vacant

The South Hutchinson City Council is seeking interested individuals to fill the remaining term of a Council seat vacated by Council member Justin Bland. The seat came open after Bland announced that he was resigning due to moving out of the City. Bland’s term is set to expire in 2013.

Mayor Weldon Cook and the city council discussed the vacancy at the November 21, meeting and decided to open the search for candidates to the public. The selected individual will fill the remaining term of the vacated position which is up for election in 2013.

Interested candidates must live in the City of South Hutchinson and be 18 years or older. Kansas State Statue allows the Mayor wide discretion in the method for nominating an individual to fill a vacated Council position.

Any nomination brought forward by the Mayor requires approval from the remainder of the City Council. Mayor Cook expressed a desire to fill the position before the beginning of 2012.

Interested candidates are advised to contact the South Hutchinson City Hall at 620-663-7104, or fill out an interest form on the City’s website, www.southhutch.com.

Interest forms are due by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 15. The Mayor and Council will address the subject at the regularly scheduled meeting on December 19.
