HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno county saw an increase for the Mortgage Registration Tax and recording fee for the month of March according to numbers from the county.

Last month, they collected $35,437 for the Mortgage Registration tax compared with $17,409 in February. For the Recording Fee, the county collected $20,433, compared to $15,206 collected in February.

So far this year, the county has collected $87,532 for the mortgage tax and 51,050 in recording fees for a total of over $138,000.

But as we told you in the past, that money for the county will be going away over the next four years. Republican Governor Sam Brownback signed legislation in May of last year that will phase the tax and fees out by 2019.

The new law will increase other fees, but won’t account for the loss expected from the elimination of the Mortgage Registration tax and the recording fees.
