The 43-year-old Hutchinson man arrested Wednesday night on charges of felony flee and elude, interference with law enforcement and driving while suspended was in court Friday morning where he told of the potential charges against him. Narvette Brown was arrested in the unit block of East Avenue C around 10:30 p-m.

Police Sgt., Thad Pickard says it started with the report of a stolen vehicle and they spotted it pretty quickly and attempted to make a stop on 4th Street. Brown then led the officers out of town west on 4th, the south on Whiteside Road, then back east to Mohawk Road, back north to 4th and then back into the city. He then reportedly either had engine trouble or ran out of gas around Avenue C and Main. He was then taken into custody, but was first taken to Promise Regional Medical Center for treatment. Pickard says they’re still waiting results of blood test, but suspect he may have taken some illegal narcotics either prior to or during the chase.

South Hutchinson Police, the Reno County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol also were involved in the incident, and one sheriff deputy was injured slightly and was treated.

It turns out the car wasn’t really stolen, apparently the woman he lives with allows him to use the car whenever he wants, and never told him not to use it Wednesday night.

Brown is no stranger to law enforcement having an extensive criminal history, including convictions for obstruction, battery of a law enforcement officer, burglary, theft, criminal threat and driving while an habitual violator. The convictions starting in 1999 up to the latest in 2000.
The convictions coming from McPherson, Sedgwick and Reno Counties.

Brown will be back in court on the flee and elude case next Wednesday or whenever the state files formal charges.
