HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The county saw an uptick in sales tax collected according to numbers released for May from County Treasurer Jan Hull.
It shows that the county collected $427,424 for the month which is an increase over April by about $130,000, when the county collected $326,830. It’s also more than what the county collected in May of last year when the total was $404,614.
The tax collected for the new Reno County Detention Facility was also up in May with a total of $529,301, a nearly $125,000 increase over the April number. It’s also more than in May of last year when the total was $429,325.
The numbers reflect the tax actually collected in March and the National Junior College Basketball Tournament may have played a part in that.
