HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Sales tax collected in June is considerably lower then what was collected by the county in May.

According to the numbers released Monday by County Treasurer Jan Hull, the county brought in $358,028 in June while in May that county collected $427,424. That’s a difference of nearly $70,000. That number is also less then June of 2014 when the county collected nearly $381,409.

So far, the county has collected just over $2,283,460. That means they’re slightly ahead of last year with the total at this point roughly $2,251,665. That’s a difference of $31,795.

Sales tax collections for the new jail is also down in June with the county collecting $443,265. Compare that to the $529,301 collected in May and it shows a difference of nearly $86,000.

So far, the county has collected $2,825,322 for the construction of the new jail as well as renovating the current jail annex for future use by some county departments as well as building a new secure entrance to the courthouse and law enforcement center. Last year at this time, the county had collected roughly $2,784,626. That shows the county is still head by approximately $40,696.

Money collected in June represents sales in the month of April.
