TOPEKA, Kan. – The Kansas Department of Commerce announced Monday that two nonprofit organizations in Hutchinson are among 23 that will share $4.13 million in tax credits under the Kansas Community Service Tax Credit Program.

The Comosphere Science and Education Center and the Hutchinson Fox Theatre both received $200,000 in tax credits under the program.

The Fox will use the funds generated from the program to rebuild the stage floor and make electronic and technical upgrades.

The Cosmosphere will use the tax credits to give the center an overall face lift. The center recently changed its name and logo to coincide with its continued progression into a learning center as well as a museum.

Since 1994, CSP has helped nonprofit organizations undertake major capital fundraising drives for various projects. Projects eligible for tax credit awards include community service, crime prevention and health care. Tax credit awards are distributed through a competitive application process.

Based on the scope and cost of the proposed project, applicants may request up to $250,000 in tax credits.
