Update – Stretch of I-70 closed by snow storm reopened

Interstate 70 has now reopened across Kansas after portions of it were closed by a winter storm.

The Kansas Department of Transportation said Tuesday that it was reopening the eastbound lanes along a 70 mile stretch of the interstate from Colby to WaKeeney in western Kansas.

I-70 is the main east-west route across Kansas. The highway was fully opened at about 11 a.m.

Those lanes were closed Monday night as a storm dumped up to 10 inches of snow on parts of western Kansas. KDOT stopped eastbound travel when the highway became packed with snow and hotel rooms filled with travelers.
