Local Fire Units responded to a house fire at 520 Cloverdale about 3:20 Tuesday afternoon where there were two occupants managed to escape, but apparently some animals had to be rescued.
Hutchinson Fire Department Battalion Chief Darin Gehring says when units arrived the front room of the home was fully involved with fire. It did expand to the attic and smoke went into other parts of the structure. There were no injuries, but they did have to rescue some dogs and cats. At late afternoon, they had found all but one, and they had to be given oxygen, but appeared to be doing well.
The cause of the fire appears to be a child playing with a lighter and damages by Gehring were estimated at around 20-thousand.
The fire started in a front room of the home on the extreme westside of Hutchinson.
