The Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team will be able to participate in postseason play this season, according to a media release from the school. The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference has granted part of the school’s appeal of sanctions.

The school was notified by the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) that certain alleged actions reported anonymously to the NJCAA constitute violations of the Conference’s Bylaws.

Specifically, the KJCCC Executive Committee believes that two students who played on the College’s women’s basketball team during the 2014-15 school year received grants-in-aid from the College in excess of the amounts permitted by KJCCC rules.

The KJCCC Executive Committee “granted Hutchinson Community College’s appeal to compete in conference play; your team (Hutch CC) will be counted in Conference standings; and your team (Hutch CC) will be eligible for post season play in 2016.”

The KJCCC Executive Committee upheld the remaining sanctions. The Committee also stipulated the reduction in scholarships come from non-Kansas athletes.

“I appreciate the reinstatement of eligibility for conference play, but I’m disappointed with the Executive Committee’s beliefs and don’t believe they are consistent with the evidence the College presented to defend our position,” stated Hutchinson Community College President Dr. Carter.

“We believe there is no direct link between the KJCCC Bylaws, the alleged violations and the sanctions. Nevertheless, Hutch CC will comply with the sanctions imposed by the Conference.”
