HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A local man was in court Wednesday morning for the formal reading of charges involving financial crimes.

Daniel Newburn is charged with criminal use of a financial card for using a financial card that wasn’t his. The second charge is theft by deception for giving false representation of statements, which the state says deceived a number of local businesses.

That included Dillons, Kwik Shop, Kmart, Auto Zone, Walmart, Pizza Ranch, Smoke Shop and Home Depot with the total coming to $3,718.21. That amount is listed in the criminal complaint.

With the charges filed, the case moves to a waiver-status docket on Sept. 16.
