United Way of Reno County announced Wednesday that they reached their campaign goal of $1,365,000. This amount represents $64,700 more than was raised last year.
Tona Turner, Executive Director of United Way of Reno County, attributes the success to the pure generosity of community members and hard working volunteers at the campaign organization level and at the company levels. “There seemed to be significant more energy at the company level this year,” said Turner.
One of the hardest working volunteers was the 98-year old Campaign Chair, Opal Wilson, who delivered well over 100 inspiring speeches to work groups all over Reno County. “Opal definitely inspired a lot of folks with her often funny and candid-style,” said Turner. “She will be a hard campaign chair to replace next year.”
“The team was really working hard to meet the goal before Opal boarded an airplane on Wednesday heading to Texas for the holidays,” said Turner. The goal was met while she was enroute. Wilson will learn of the campaign’s success by a phone call upon landing.
Meeting the goal means that all 55 programs will receive 100% of the funds allocated to them for 2012. Fund Allocations are as follows:
