A 22-year-old McPherson man, who until recently was living in Hutchinson appeared via-video from the Reno County Jail Thursday morning on a charge of failing to register as a sex offender.

James Lester Paxman was convicted of sexual exploitation of a child in a 2007 case in McPherson County apparently failed to register with the Reno County Sheriff’s Office while living in Hutchinson.

He was paroled in September of last year in McPherson County, but apparently at some point moved to Hutchinson and was supposed to register with the local sheriff when doing so.

The charge of failing to register as a sex offender carries a sentence of 17-46 months in prison if convicted.

Paxman was jailed on a 5-thousand dollar bond, but wanted that reduced or given a signature bond saying he wanted to spend time with his family for Christmas in McPherson. The state opposed, but Reno County Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen lowered it to 35-hundred dollars and Paxman’s case will be placed on a waiver-status docket for January 10.
