NEW YORK (AP) – Both the Hutchinson Sears and K-mart stores in Hutchinson have been sparred according to the list released by the company Thursday. They had announced earlier this week that they would be closing between 100 and 120 Sears and K-mart stores after what they say was a terrible holiday sales season for them.

Same-store revenue fell 5.2% to date for the quarter at both Sears and K-mart, the company said Tuesday. That includes the critical holiday shopping period, a time that most retailers depend on for a sales surge that will put them in the black.

K-mart’s 6% decline in revenue at stores open at least a year was blamed on diminished layaways and a drop in clothing and consumer electronics sales. Sears’ cited lackluster consumer electronics and home appliance sales for its 4.4% drop off. Sears’ clothing sales were flat, while sales of Lands’ End products at Sears stores rose mid-single digits.

The only Kansas Store mentioned was one in Lawrence, however the list issued on Thursday is only 79 of the 100 to 120 stores they had announced would be closed, so the Hutch stores could make the list yet.

Sears Holdings has more than 4,000 stores in the USA and Canada.
