Work on US-50 and K-61 on hold for the winter

We keep getting inquirers at Eagle Media about the work, or lack there of at the two major highway projects in the county. And as we have said in the past, both the US-50 and K-61 four lane projects are on hold for the winter months.

The US-50 project will provide four lane road east to Airport Road along with two interchanges at Airport and the east Junction of K-61.

The K-61 project has gone as far as it can prior to the spring when two major projects will affect Hutchinson.

That’s when work will begin on the east 56th Avenue interchange, that was halted late in the summer due to unforeseen problems with some relocated utilities.

Soon after that work will begin to tie in one of the two lanes of the new highway to the 30th intersection. That will close off 30th for an extended period. K-DOT’s martin Miller said he should have a run down of what lies ahead for both projects in the next few days.
