HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 27-year-old man arrested on Nov. 3 on several charges involving the distribution of drugs has been formally charged.

Kristopher Lee Richards is charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of Oxycodone, possession of marijuana all with intent to distribute. Other potential charges include possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute, possession of another prescription drug, driving while suspended and illegal display. He was also in possession of a firearm which if convicted on the distribution charges would add an additional six months to each sentence.

While appearing via-video from the Reno County Correctional Facility Friday, he requested a lowering of his bond. He says he has no money and says he’s lost everything he had because of these stupid mistakes. The state opposed any reduction because twice he failed to appear in another case where he’s charged with possession of methamphetamine and Hydrocodone with intent to sell within a thousand feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana. That case goes back to Oct. 19.

Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen agreed with the states contention and told Richards that she is bothered over the fact that these are distribution charges, plus a weapon was also involved. She denied the request, so bond will remain at $30,150.

His case will be scheduled for a waiver-status hearing.
