Man arrested in May killing at Wichita party

WICHITA (AP) – A 19-year-old man has been arrested in a shooting death that Wichita police have been investigating since this spring.

Wichita police Lt. Ken Landwehr said the teen was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder and aggravated battery. He is suspected in the May 7 shooting death of 22-year-old Mario Brown.

The Wichita Eagle reported that Brown was shot from a sport utility vehicle as he stood in a parking lot at an after-hours party. Landwehr says police are still looking for another
19-year-old man who was in the SUV when Brown was shot.

Police said Brown was a known gang member.

With the arrest, three other homicides from 2011 remain unsolved. There have been 26 homicides in the city so far this year.
