WICHITA (AP) – Newman University in Wichita and Independence Community College officials have signed a dual admissions agreement to allow students seeking elementary education degrees to attend both schools.

Under the deal, Independence students who graduate with an associate degree in arts or science are given a scholarship of $3,000 per year to attend Newman.

Newman director of communications Kelly Snedden said the deal makes it easier for Independence students to take classes that will transfer to Newman. Students will be required to declare that they plan on transferring to Newman at least one year before graduation.

The Wichita Eagle reports Newman recently signed similar arrangements with Coffeyville Community College and Labette Community College. It already had similar agreements with
Dodge City, Butler, Cowley, Pratt and Hutchinson community colleges.
