Esther Mae Hovious, 92, of Hutchinson, died March 24, 2018, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born March 20, 1926, in Hutchinson, to John and Esther (Brower) Edie.

She was a homemaker and mother until her children were a little bit older; then she worked seasonally as a gift wrapper at Pegues Department Store. Esther worked as a cook for the Hutchinson Public School District for many years. She taught Sunday School for several years before becoming a member of Crossroads Christian Church. She especially enjoyed baking pies, sewing and quilting projects, and gardening in her spare time.

Esther married Jay Christian Hovious on June 1, 1943, in Newton. He died July 4, 2012.

Survivors include: son, Jim Hovious and wife Sharon of Hutchinson; daughters, Nancy McGaughey and husband Mak, Kathy Crank and husband Rich all of Hutchinson; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and sister, Jean Frost.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2018, at Elliott Chapel with Pastors Lee Keele and Kevin Guffey presiding. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to service time, at Elliott Mortuary.

MaryAnn Taylor, 70, of South Hutchinson, died March 24, 2018, at her home. She was born February 29, 1948, in Hays, to Marvin Richard and Dora Catherina (Keetler) Schwein.

MaryAnn graduated from Nickerson High School in 1966 and Sidney’s Hairdressing College in 1968. She was a cosmetologist for almost 50 years. MaryAnn was past-president of the Kansas Cosmetology Association and was a Kansas Styles Director. She was also involved with V.F.W. Bob Campbell Post #1361 Ladies Auxillary, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Reno County, and Reno County CASA. MaryAnn was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for over 40 years.

On May 23, 2014, she married Richard ‘Bruce’ Taylor in Miami, Oklahoma. MaryAnn is survived by: husband, Bruce; daughter, Cathy Walker; granddaughters, Lindsey Lane, Logan Sutton, Shay Slonaker, Rylee Ulrey, Sydnee Ulrey; great-grandsons, Neo Sutton, Liam Powers, Elias Denson, Essiah Denson; brother, Marvin R. Schwein Jr.; sisters, Vicky Manche (Tom), Sharoll Bickel (Mike), Sharon Toews (John); stepson, Amos H. Swepston Jr.; nieces, Tamara, Tiffany, Tabitha, Kim, Sonya; nephews, Tom Jr., Troy, Brian, Zac, Cortney, Shane, Jeffrey, Chad, Dustin, Austin; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by: her father, Marvin Schwein; her mother, Dora McKeown; brothers, Terry Schwein, Jerry Schwein, and daughter, Emma Janel Lane.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1017 N. Washington, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Angela DeVore and Harley Phillips officiating. Private family inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Louise Emily Deaver, 95, of Hutchinson, died March 19, 2018, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born February 9, 1923, in Decatur, Arkansas, the daughter of Herman C. and Levina E. (Bowen) Tucker.

Louise was a homemaker and former clerk at Wiley’s Department Store. She was a member of Park Place Christian Church, Sandhill Saddle Club, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Women’s Civic Center, and enjoyed art, bingo, and painting.

On May 19, 1946, Louise married Ralph W. Deaver, Jr. in Hutchinson. He died December 25, 1995.
She is survived by: daughter, Sue Kiser (Jon) of Hutchinson; brother, George Tucker of Kansas City, KS; sister, Mary Haltom of Hutchinson; and her loving four-legged grandson, Landon. Louise was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Lucille Patterson; and brother, Norman Tucker.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2018, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4th Ave., Hutchinson, with Pastor David Dubovich officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

Marcketta Peak, 94, of Hutchinson, died Sunday, March 18, 2018, at her home in Hutchinson. She was born January 24, 1924, in Alexander, Kansas, to Arthur Ransford and Mary Elizabeth (Jackson) Tomlinson.

Marcketta graduated from Alexander High School in 1941. She retired from the Farmers CO-OP in Lyons. Marcketta loved to cook, and was famous for her cookies. She was a self-taught crochet queen, and enjoyed playing cards and games with her family. Marcketta’s family was her top priority, and she never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. She was a member of Salem Community Church of the Brethren, Nickerson and the Lyons VFW Women’s Auxiliary.

On March 2, 1971, she married George Peak in Lyons. He died January 29, 2001. Marcketta is survived by: son, Ray Mohr (Rita) of Topeka; daughters, Sandi Moore (Randy) of Nickerson, Eva Geiger of Kansas City, Missouri; granddaughter, Daiquiri Rosen (Brent) of Lenexa; grandsons, Dusty Moore (Jonna) of Hutchinson, Gordon Geiger of Littleton, Colorado, Brandon Geiger (Courtney) of Kansas City, Kansas; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Robert and Cecil Tomlinson.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor George Hinton officiating. Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. at Alexander Cemetery, Alexander, Kansas. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

Robert G. ‘Bob’ Hodgkinson, age 83, of Hutchinson, died March 17, 2018, at Brookdale of Hutchinson. Bob was born January 20, 1935, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Robert R. and Bertha (Mettscher) Hodgkinson.

He was a 1953 graduate of Pratt High School, then attended Garden City Community College and Wichita Business College, earning his business degree. He proudly served in the United States Navy in Okinawa, Japan, from 1953 to 1955. A Hutchinson resident since 1966, Bob was hired to set up the first mainframe computer for the Dillon’s Company, and then worked as Vice-President Controller for Jackson Ice Cream, Co., until his retirement in 1984. During retirement, Bob set up his own accounting service at the Quest Center, helping many small businesses get a head start. He volunteered at the Dillon Nature Center, served on the board for Interfaith Housing Services, and relished time spent with his family.

On January 1, 1958, Bob married Estie Viola Deaver in Wichita, Kansas. She died May 6, 1995. Survivors include: sons, Robert E. Hodgkinson (Cheryl) of Stilwell, KS, Randall L. Hodgkinson (Marlana) of Topeka, Kansas, Dennis Lehman (Susan) of Hutchinson, KS; a daughter, Rhonda L. Willome (Mike) of Wichita, Kansas; brothers, Delmar Hodgkinson of Pratt, Kansas, Dennis Hodgkinson of Osawatomie, Kansas; and his very special friend for the last 15 years, Kathleen Peters of Hutchinson. Bob has three grandsons: John Willome, Daniel Hodgkinson, and Andrew Hodgkinson.
He was preceded in death by: an infant brother, Delbert; parents, Bertha and Robert Hodgkinson; and sister, Shirley Davis.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018, at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Luke Helmuth officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. The casket will remain closed.
