Keith L. MacArthur | 1947 – 2017 |

Keith L. MacArthur, 70, died on Nov. 26, 2017 at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita, KS. He was born on August 30, 1947 in Junction City, KS the son of Chester Andrew MacArthur and Alice Vera (Renner) MacArthur.

After high school and attending college, Keith enlisted in the United States Army on May 23rd, 1967 in San Antonio, TX and was honorably discharged on August 8, 1973 at Fort Riley, KS.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three infant brothers, one brother, Arlyn MacArthur.

Survivors include his children, Brandon (Annie) Thompson, Steffanie (Nick) Reuber, Joshua (Taylor) MacArthur, Megan (James) Thorne, Amy (Blaine) Barnes and Dustin MacArthur; two brothers, Rodney and Walter MacArthur and eight grandchildren.

The Memorial Service will be held on Fri. Dec. 1, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hutchinson Funeral Chapel. Fort Riley Honor Guard will be presenting honors.

Private burial services will be held. Cremation has taken place.

Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veteran’s program, in care of the funeral home at 300 E. 30th, Hutchinson, KS 67502.

Steven Schrag | 1949 – 2017 |

U.S. Veteran Steven J. Schrag, 68, died November 24, 2017, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born January 15, 1949, in Newton, to Willard N. and Waneta Fern (Hackenberg) Schrag.

Steven graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1968. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Steven served as a fireman in Newton for two years. For 30 years, he was a truck driver for Dillons and later leased to Bruel Company. Steven loved to hunt, camp, and team rope, but his greatest joy was his family.

In 1984, he married Susie Denny in Miami, Oklahoma. Steven is survived by: wife, Susie of Inman; sons, Casey Joe Schrag and wife Monica of Nickerson, Adam Schrag and wife Rachelle, Tony Hall and wife Nicky, all of Hutchinson; mother, Waneta Showalter of Newton; sisters, Rita Franz and husband Denny of Newton, Joyce Schnabel of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Walker, Pearson, Tommy, Blaine, Josie, Brooke, Carter, Parker, Taylor, Piper, Kadi, Baylee, Peyton, Dylan, Kolbi, Tanner and Mattey; great-granddaughter, Brinley Schrag; daughters-in-law, Crystal Moots of Hutchinson, Sarah King of Haven; and numerous nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his dad, Willard; sons, Joshua Travis Schrag, Mathew Ryan Schrag; and brothers, John Schrag and Bill Schrag.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2017, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Chaplain Ron DeVore officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday until service time at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to the Reno County Veteran’s Memorial, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Randy D. Cole | 1956 – 2017 |

Randy D. Cole, 61, of Hutchinson, died November 23, 2017, at his home. He was born January 11, 1956, in Oxnard, California, the son of James and Anna (Helmuth) Cole. He was a graduate of Nickerson High School. Randy was a machinist for Consolidated Mfg. and Hesston Corporation.

Surviving family members are: his mother, Anna Cole of Hutchinson; sister, Cynthia Cole of Wichita; niece and nephew, Elly Cole of Hutchinson and Scott Cole of Missouri.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Journey@Yoder Mennonite Fellowship Hall, 3605 E. Longview Rd., Haven, Kansas, with Pastor Howard Wagler presiding. His casket will remain closed. Burial will be in Yoder Cemetery. Friends may sign his book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Randy Cole Memorial Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Wilda J. Applegate | 1924 – 2017 |

Wilda J. Applegate, 93, died November 22, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society, Hutchinson. She was born February 16, 1924, in Chase, to Charles S. and Minnie ‘Peggy’ (Rodeman) Hardwick. 

Wilda graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1942 and attended Hutchinson Community College. She had worked as a riveter at Cessna during WWII. She was a member of Friends Church in Hutchinson and EHU, Extension Home Unit. Wilda was an avid painter, bowler, and gardener.

On January 28, 1948, she married Robert Paul Applegate in Hutchinson. He died March 6, 2017. Wilda is survived by: children, Gary Applegate and wife Sharine of Hutchinson, Bruce Applegate and wife Svetlana of Spearfish, SD, Alisa Williamson and husband John of Sturgis, SD; grandchildren, Wendy White, Robert Applegate (Kelsi), Dustin Applegate, Amanda Applegate, Anna Fenner, Cassie Applegate (David Copeland), Abbie Applegate, Courtney Applegate, Misha Kobka, Elvira Kobka, Nathan Williamson (Sandra), Jodee Oliver (Seth), Chase Williamson (Natalie); 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and sister, Avanel Allison of Greensburg. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Roberta Dixon and Vince Hardwick.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor John Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery, Arlington. Friends may sign her book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Memorials may be made to Believers Fellowship (for overseas children’s ministry), in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main Hutchinson, KS 67501.

John W. Saunders | 1940 – 2017 |

John W. Saunders, 77, died November 21, 2017, at his home in Hutchinson.

Private family burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS, is in charge of arrangements.

Dragons/Panthers set for afternoon tips Saturday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After losing on the road in overtime to Cloud County, the Blue Dragons have reeled off two straight victories behind 20+ point efforts from J.J. Rhymes.

Neosho is 1-3 in conference play and on a two-game losing streak.

Despite just a 10-point victory at home against Coffeyville, the Blue Dragon women dominated the boards 55-30. HutchCC’s win streak is back at two after dropping two straight to open conference play.

William T. “Bill” Frye | 1927 – 2017 |

U.S. VeteranWilliam T. ‘Bill’ Frye, 89, died Monday, November 20, 2017, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born December 12, 1927, in rural Reno County, to Harmon and Zetta (Cosat) Frye. 

On September 15, 1955, he married Patricia L. Mowery in Hutchinson. She died July 18, 2015.

Bill served in the United States Army and was a machinist at Cessna for 35 years. He loved traveling, gardening, camping, and fishing. Bill was a member of Walnut and Campbell Church of Christ.

Bill is survived by: sons, John (Vera) of Lyons, Earl of Moundridge, Chris of Nickerson; sisters, Maudie Brack of Buhler, Ora Henry of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Lisa Stout (Landon), Adam Frye, Brent Frye (Yilin), Kyle Frye (Monica), Stacy Frye, Trisha Sims (Kris), Ashley Britton (Shawn), Jessica Cottingham (Sean), Cassandra Frye; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Frye; great-granddaughter, Kennedy Frye; and siblings, Avis Anderson, Burton Frye, Clara Ketchum, Nellie Neuenschwander, Peggy Phipps, Faye Gibson, and George Frye.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 27, 2017, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Jon Caudle, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to the Cancer Council of Reno County or Hospice and HomeCare of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
