HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Cora Cathryn Sparks Jerauld, 92, died September 25, 2017, at Diversicare of Hutchinson.  She was born June 18, 1925, in Joplin, Missouri, the daughter of Charles and Pauline (Broadhurst) McCune. In addition to being a homemaker, Cora worked at Woolworths and the Hutchinson Bag Company.

On November 21, 1943, she married Merril Sparks in Hutchinson. He died September 2, 1971. On February 15, 1974, Cora married Harvey Jerauld in Hutchinson. He died April 11, 2005.

She is survived by: daughter Wendy Flickinger and husband Richard of Abbyville; son, Merrel Sparks, Jr. ‘Bud’ and wife Pat of Hutchinson; 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild on the way; sister, Dawnita Jeffer of Orange City, Iowa; and numerous other family members. Cora was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Bonnie Byer; brother, Dale Mahoney; sisters, Carol Lambert and Geraldine Mahoney.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with the family to receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — John Mark Loehr, 42, died September 25, 2017, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born June 10, 1975, in Hutchinson, the son of Mark and Bobbie (Venters) Loehr.

John graduated from Haven High School and attended Hutchinson Area Vocational School. He worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 15 years and then for the City of Haven Streets and Maintenance Department.

On May 8, 2004, John married Tricia Ann Moore in South Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: sons, Lance and Wade of the home; sisters, Chandra Robertson (Aaron) of Cheney, Robin Bell (Robert) and Haylie Reese (Wayne), all of Mt. Hope; father, Mark Loehr of Haven; grandmother, Jean Hurt of Haven; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bobbie Loehr.

Rosary will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday, September 28, 2017, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 29, 2017, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Laurel Cemetery, Haven. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will greet friends Thursday following the Rosary, from 7 to 8 p.m.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Sybil A. Nethercot, 98, of Hutchinson, died Monday, September 25, 2017, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born August 28, 1919, in Hutchinson, to William Andrew and Mildred (Feese) Randles.

Sybil graduated from Hutchinson High School and was a homemaker. For 28 years, she was the head secretary of the Beef Cattle Department at the Kansas State Fair. Sybil was a member of the Wheatheart Camping Club, Good Sams Camping Club and a lifetime member of the Carey Park Women’s Golf Association. She was a member of Church of the Holy Cross.

On October 14, 1939, she married Paul W. Nethercot in Hutchinson. He died September 6, 1998. Sybil is survived by: daughters, Judy Chalfant (Wendel), Lyn Thomann (D.T.), Lori Smith, all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Traci Odle, Angie Nachtigal, Brian Chalfant, Amy Weeks, Jamie Ireland, Tyler Smith, Kyle Smith; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Doris Hall; brother, William Randles; and son-in-law, Dan Smith.

Parish Rosary will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2017, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:30 a.m., both at Church of the Holy Cross, 2631 Independence Road, with Father Aaron Spexarth officiating. HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Sara ‘Madlyn’ Hildebrant, 87, died Sunday, September 24, 2017, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born September 26, 1929, in Minneola, to Orley and Valeta (McKinster) Creech.

Madlyn graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1947. She was a homemaker and longtime member and volunteer at First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

On June 29, 1947, she married George F. Hildebrant in Hutchinson. They shared 70 years of marriage. Madlyn is survived by: husband, George; daughters, Ronda Rae Moyers and husband Roy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Debra Diane Leonard and husband Earl of Hutchinson; grandson, Eric Leonard and wife Jancy of Hutchinson; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: brothers, Russell, Olen, Maurice and Harold Creech; sister, Mary Lodema Wright; and granddaughter, Haley Nichole Leonard.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 28, 2017, at First United Methodist Church, 1st and Walnut, with Reverend Jeff Slater officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Carol Lee Cook, of Hutchinson, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, died peacefully at home on September 22, 2017, with her devoted husband, Doug, at her bedside. For many years, she fought a debilitating muscular illness with determination, grace and humor.

She is survived by her husband, Douglas D. Cook, who cared for her for many years, especially during recent years when she was confined to a wheelchair. She is also survived by: her two daughters and their husbands, Melinda McMichael (James) of Austin, Texas, and Kim Jones (Clifton) of Topeka, Kansas; grandchildren, Amy McMichael Paddock (Richard), Grant McMichael, Hale McMichael (Rebecca Thrower), Cook Jones (Jaci Kettler), Caleb Jones, and Grace Jones; great-grandchildren, Luke Paddock, Hayes Paddock, and Liam McMichael; as well as numerous cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude M. and Oillie Lee (Allsman) Herr and brother, Gordon H. Herr.

Carol was born in Great Bend, Kansas on December 3, 1932. After attending Kansas State University, she moved to Hutchinson in 1952, where she attended Adela Hale Business School. She married Douglas D. Cook in 1953. Together, they created a life filled with family and friends too numerous to mention individually. Carol was active in the First Congregational Church in Hutchinson. For many years, she ran the church Men’s Club pancake stand at the Kansas State Fair. She volunteered at Hutchinson Hospital (where she served as president of the Hutchinson Hospital Auxiliary), Hadley Day Care Center, the Kansas State Fair information booth, and the American Red Cross Blood Bank. Carol was a member of PEO Chapter EK. She served on the board of the Hutchinson Art Association and co-chaired the annual outdoor art fair, until limited by the decline in her health.

Carol was a devoted mother and grandmother; her grandchildren knew her as both Grandma and Mema. She frequently cared for her grandchildren in Austin and Topeka and loved having them stay with her and Doug in Hutchinson. A visit to Hutchinson was guaranteed to be filled with toys, games, sugary treats, animals, visits to Carey Park and Dillon Nature Center ” all great fun if you were ‘Grandma/Mema’.

The family wishes to thank Melody Bratcher for her longterm friendship and loving assistance in the final years of Carol’s life, as well as the many Kindred Hospice caregivers, and other friends and neighbors who helped Doug care for Carol during this time.

A private family graveside service at Memorial Park is planned. A memorial service to honor Carol will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, October 14, 2017, at First Congregational Church, 3401 N. Plum Street, Hutchinson.
