HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Community College has scheduled a pair of June boot camps geared toward high school students and young adults ages 14 and older.

The Cyber Warrior Boot Camp will allow students to participate in hands-on activities and meet professionals in the computer networking and cybersecurity fields. The multimedia boot camp will teach participants how to use multimedia tools to gather, process and deliver news.

Participants can choose to attend a camp either on Tuesday, June 11, or Wednesday, June 12, from 9 a.m. to  3:30 p.m. Or, they can experience computer networking one day and multimedia the next. HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Commission will consider a letter of intent Tuesday to grant tax and job incentives to Ade Enterprises, LLC, for the construction of a new office building. This is for Wifco Steel at 8003 N. Medora Rd. Discussion on this topic was tabled at a previous meeting.

Commissioners will also hear an update from ONEOK for a Northline 7 extension being constructed to transport natural gas liquids from ONEOK’s Hutchinson junction to its Medford, Oklahoma, fractionation facility.

The pipeline includes approximately 92 miles of new 20-inch diameter pipe and will have the capacity to transport up to 250,000 barrels per day of unfractionated natural gas liquids.

The pipeline will cross through Reno, Kingman, Harper and Sumner counties in Kansas and Grant County in Oklahoma.

The Reno County Commission meeting starts at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Reno County Courthouse.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A man charged with possession of THC with intent to distribute was granted three years community corrections on a four-year underlying sentence.

Joshua Meadows was caught with as many as 100 dosage units of THC when he was arrested on April 6, 2018. THC, short for tetrahydrocannabinol, the active ingredient in marijuana, gets a person high.

Reno County District Judge Trish Rose granted Meadows corrections as opposed to ordering the sentence be served.

HAVEN, Kan. — Police in Haven are still getting reports about calls from a scammer claiming to be from Westar and threatening to turn off power.

Residents in that city don’t receive electricity from Westar. In fact, residents get power from the city of Haven.

Officers are advising residents to hang up if they receive this scam call.

HAVEN, Kan. — A 62-year-old Pretty Prairie man was injured from a medical condition that caused him to crash his vehicle while traveling south on Rayl Road near Haven.

Dale Thimmesch ran off the road. His vehicle came to rest in a sewer pond. He was not injured from the accident itself but was taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment of the medical condition.

The accident occurred around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A man arrested after officers were called to the report of an overdose at a Hutchinson apartment has been formally charged.

Forty-four-year-old Michael McBride now faces charges for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with two or more priors, possession of Alprazolam, Clonazepam, and drug paraphernalia.

McBride also faces a corrections violation for a conviction of violating the offender registration act.

The arrest came just after 11:30 p.m. on April 16 in the 200 block of West 7th.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A local brewery plans to open a second location this weekend in the Kansas City area.

Brothers John and Pippin Williamson, who own and operate Sandhills Brewing, planned on building two breweries from day one. The brothers wanted a brewery in Hutchinson, where Pippin lives, and one in the Kansas City area, where John lives.

The new brewery will be in Mission, Kansas, at 5612 Johnson Drive, right in the heart of their downtown.

“It will be open this Thursday and Friday and will then be open every weekend after that,” Pippin Williamson said.

This second location will be their testing ground and predominantly offer draft-only beer. However, they will also bring in specialty, barrel-aged beers from Hutchinson for enjoyment on-site and available to go from time-to-time. The brothers have larger warehouse space in Hutchinson so they can make some beer and store it until needed.

The Hutchinson location is at 111 W. 2nd. The brewery is located in the back of the building with Sunflower Yoga.

Williamson says the Hutch facility is a very low-key place for having a beer with about 45 seats. This is where patrons can come in and sample the beer in stock. Generally, they have eight different beers on tap.
