(AP) — In a startling scene, Cleveland Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer suddenly heaved the ball from just past the mound over the center field wall while being taken out of the game in a 9-6 loss to the Kansas City Royals. Bauer said he had been frustrated, and apologized for his actions in a statement after the game.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — George Springer led off the game with a home run, Jose Altuve and rookie Yordan Alvarez also connected and the Houston Astros beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-2. The Astros have won nine of 11, including two of three in this interleague matchup of division leaders. Paul Goldschmidt’s team record-tying streak of six straight games with a home run ended for St. Louis. He singled in five at-bats.
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) — Tyreek Hill was contrite but repentant in his first comments since he was banished from the Kansas City Chiefs following an audio recording in which his then-fiancee accused him of hurting their son. The star wide receiver declined Sunday to discuss the specifics of his case, which wound to a conclusion late last week when the NFL declined to punish him for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. But he did apologize for the precarious situation it left the Chiefs in this past offseason.
ATLANTA (AP) — Following a 17-year career with the Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons, Tony Gonzalez is set to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He has the second most catches in NFL history, behind Jerry Rice. Gonzalez helped revolutionize the tight end position.

UNDATED (AP) _ The Minnesota Twins have stretched their lead in the AL Central to two games over the Cleveland Indians. Miguel Sanó belted a three-run homer while the Twins scored five times in the first inning of an 11-1 pounding of the White Sox. The Indians wasted a 5-3 lead and a three-run homer by Carlos Santana in a 9-6 loss to the Royals.
BOSTON (AP) _ Didi Gregorius and Austin Romine each hit two-run homers off Chris Sale as the New York Yankees outscored the Red Sox, 9-6 in Boston to avoid a four-game sweep. Domingo Germán took a no-hitter into the fourth inning and allowed four hits while striking out nine over 5 1/3 to move to 13-2. The Red Sox committed three errors to fall into third in the AL East, nine games behind the Yankees.
UNDATED (AP) _ The Chicago Cubs have moved back into a first-place tie with the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central, one game ahead of Milwaukee. Kyle Schwarber was the hitting star in the Cubs’ 11-4 mauling of the Brewers, hitting a grand slam and a three-run homer off Kyle Davies. Homers by George Springer, Jose Altuve and rookie Yordan Alvarez powered the Astros past the Cardinals, 6-2 to keep Houston eight games ahead of Oakland atop the AL West.
UNDATED (AP) _ Stephen Strasburg won his seventh consecutive start and the Washington Nationals climbed back within 5 ½ games of the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves by thrashing the Los Angeles Dodgers, 11-4. Strasburg struck out nine, walked none and limited a potent Dodgers lineup to one run and two hits over seven innings to earn his major league-leading 14th win. J.T. Realmuto launched a grand slam and three other Phillies went deep in a 9-4 thumping of Atlanta.
UNDATED (AP) _ The New York Mets have acquired All-Star pitcher Marcus Stroman from the Toronto Blue Jays for pitching prospects Anthony Kay and Simeon Woods Richardson. Stroman is 6-11 in 21 starts despite a 2.96 ERA that is fifth-best in the American League. He has a $7.4 million salary and is not eligible for free agency until after the 2020 season. And the Cleveland Indians have acquired pitcher Hunter Wood and infielder Christian Arroyo from the Rays for minor league outfielder Ruben Cardenas and international slot money.
LONG POND, Pa. (AP) _ Denny Hamlin had enough fuel to pull away off the final restart in an overtime finish for his fifth victory at Pocono Raceway. Hamlin raced to his third victory of the season and 34th overall in NACAR Cup Series race, giving Joe Gibbs Racing its 11th win in 21 races this season. Hamlin held off teammates Erik Jones, who needed a win to secure a spot in the playoffs. Martin Truex Jr. was third, followed by William Bryon and Kyle Larson.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) _ Brooks Koepka had three birdies in a four-hole stretch on the front nine and cruised to a three-stroke victory over Webb Simpson at the FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Playing with Rory McIlroy in their first final-group pairing, the top-ranked Koepka closed with a bogey-free 5-under 65 at TPC Southwind for his seventh PGA Tour title. He finished at 16-under 264.
LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England (AP) _ Bernhard Langer beat Paul Broadhurst by two shots to win the Senior British Open for his record-extending 11th senior major title. Langer trailed Broadhurst by three shots before firing a 4-under 66 to finish at 6-under 274 for his record fourth Senior Open title. After heavy rain delayed the round by almost six hours, the two-time Masters champion opened with four birdies on the front nine and added two more on Nos. 13 and 14 at Royal Lytham & St. Annes to build a four-stroke lead.
PARIS (AP) _ Egan Bernal has become the first Colombian to win the Tour de France as the three-week race ended with the 21st and final stage on the Champs-Elysees. The 22-year-old Bernal is the youngest Tour winner in the post-World War II era. Bernal succeeded Ineos teammate Geraint Thomas as the British outfit posted a seventh Tour victory with a fourth different rider in eight years.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – Hutchpost.com note: De’Vondre Campbell is a former HutchCC Blue Dragon linebacker who went on to star for the Minnesota Gophers. Now he is shinning for the Atlanta Falcons.
During Saturday’s training camp practice, Matt Ryan made a check at the line of scrimmage, changed the play and De’Vondre Campbell recognized it.
Without hesitating, the Falcons’ fourth-year linebacker barked out where the play was headed to the rest of the defense. A year ago, Campbell probably wouldn’t have said anything to rest of the defense in fear that he could be wrong.
“Now, if I’m wrong, I’m wrong,” Campbell said. “At least I’m still communicating and everyone is on the same page.”
The change in mindset occurred last season when Campbell was thrusted into a new role.
When starting middle linebacker Deion Jones went down with a foot injury in the season-opening loss to the Eagles and missed 10 games, Campbell was suddenly the signal-caller for Atlanta’s defense.
Jones typically wears the green sticker on his helmet which allows him to be able to receive the calls from the coaches. Now, not only would Campbell be responsible for his individual assignments, he would also shoulder the responsibility of making sure the rest of the defense was on the same page.
As the Falcons prepare to kick off the 2019 season, that role change and having to take on new responsibilities is turning out to be a blessing in disguise for Campbell.
“It forced me to step out of my comfort zone and run everything and have everyone look at me as the leader now,” Campbell said. “That was the biggest thing I had to overcome. Getting out of my comfort zone and helping other people.”
Campbell said the experience has put him “light years” ahead in terms of his development.
Since arriving in Atlanta, Campbell’s been a key piece of Dan Quinn’s defense. His height, length and athleticism make him a unique player.
At 6-foot-4, 232-pound linebacker is not only stout in the run game, he’s even more of a weapon against the pass. Campbell’s speed coupled with his 33-inch wingspan allows him to cover tight ends well.
One of the main reasons he was such an intriguing draft prospect.
Falcons coach Dan Quinn and Campbell spent a lot of time together this offseason while on various leadership trips. After seeing the growth Campbell made in Year 3 as leader and as a player, Quinn challenged the linebacker to take it one step further.
“That’s where I challenged him on; could he take on that mantle that he assumed, and stay with it, even with the return of some players?” Quinn said. “He’s always been really good as somebody who is guarding tight ends and that, but could he bring the whole thing together? The more truth, the more leading we have, the stronger we’ll be. I thought for him, he’s right in the middle of it, and I want to make sure his development as a leader stayed consistent, even with some voices coming back.”
Campbell has recorded 234 tackles, 11 passes defensed, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in his three seasons in Atlanta. The 2019 season is not only a big one for Campbell as heads into the final year of his contract, it’s crucial for Atlanta’s defense as a whole.
Campbell is “more cognizant” of what is expected from him and now he’s more than ready to face any challenge that might come his way.
“I love pressure,” Campbell said. “I feel like pressure does one or two things: You either get better from it or you fold. I don’t ever fold no matter what the situation is. I like being under pressure, it’s a good thing.”
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs held their second full squad practice of training camp Sunday morning at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. The Chiefs practiced in helmets again today and will be in full pads Monday at 8:15 a.m. for the first time.
Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill, defensive lineman Chris Jones and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy spoke with the media after practice.
WICHITA, Kan. — In the end, it was the Golden Eagles advancing out of The Basketball Tournament’s Wichita Regional.
Dwight Buycks poured in a game-high 34 points, going 13-for-15 from the field, to lead the top-seeded Golden Eagles to an 88-80 win over Sideline Cancer at Charles Koch Arena.
The Marquette alumni also received strong outings from Jamil Wilson (22 points, 8 rebounds) and Andrew Rowsey (12 points). Raymond Cowels III had 20 points in the losing effort for Sideline Cancer, which fell despite shooting 50 percent from the field.
With the win, the Golden Eagles advanced to Championship Week in Chicago, and will face the Jackson TN Underdawgs in the quarterfinals on Thursday on ESPNU at 8 p.m. CT.
WICHITA, Kan. – Hutchinson Monarchs players Conor Craig and Dylan Nedved came up big in the opening game for Hutch on Sunday in the 85th edition of the NBC World Series as Hutch won over Elite 316 by a score of 7-4.
Craig got a clutch RBI in the bottom of the 5th to score Taylor Barber from 3rd to give the Monarchs the lead then Dylan Nedved homered for a 2 run shot in the bottom of the 8th for 2 insurance runs to extend the Monarch lead by 3 runs to 7-4.
M. Howell got the win pitching 6 innings while Zack Philbin got the save for the Monarchs.
Next action for the Monarchs will be at 7 pm Monday as Hutchinson continues pool play by taking on the Palm Springs Chill.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Carlos Correa hit his first career grand slam and the Houston Astros withstood yet another home run by Paul Goldschmidt, beating the St. Louis Cardinals 8-2. Correa drove in five runs, but left in the ninth inning after getting spiked on a slide. Goldschmidt homered in his sixth straight game, tying a Cardinals record with Matt Carpenter and Mark McGwire. St. Louis had won six in a row before this loss in an interleague matchup of division leaders.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Jason Kipnis hit a grand slam in the first inning, and Mike Clevinger struck out seven and remained perfect against Kansas City as the Cleveland Indians routed the Royals 9-1. Clevinger allowed one run on eight hits in seven innings and didn’t walk a batter.
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) — Thousands of Chiefs fans chanted Tyreek Hill’s name as he pranced toward the practice field for the first full-squad workout of training camp. It was the first time the star wide receiver has practiced with his teammates since the AFC title game. Hill thumped his chest, signed autographs, high-stepped across one practice field and played to the fans just over a week after the NFL said he would face no punishment from a messy offseason situation.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Allyson Felix finished sixth in the 400-meter final at the U.S. championships and missed out on qualifying in an individual event for worlds for the first time as a professional. Felix fell behind early and couldn’t make up ground as she returned to competition eight months after having a baby. Shakima Wimbley won the 400 in a time of 50.21 seconds.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals have traded left-handed reliever Jake Diekman to the Oakland Athletics for two minor league prospects. The deal came as part of a flurry of roster moves before the Royals played the Cleveland Indians. Kansas City also recalled oft-injured pitcher Kyle Zimmer and first baseman Ryan O’Hearn from Triple-A Omaha. First baseman Lucas Duda was designated for assignment.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ The Atlanta Braves have put right fielder Nick Markakis and infielder Dansby Swanson on the 10-day injured list. Markakis suffered a broken left wrist when he was hit by a pitch Friday night. Manager Brian Snitker says Markakis won’t need surgery and could return in six to eight weeks.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) _ New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate has received a four-game suspension for using a drug prescribed for fertility planning. The 10-year veteran announced the suspension in a Twitter post Saturday and says he plans to appeal the violation of the NFL’s policy on performance enhancers and is confident his appeal has merit. He took a prescribed drug and learned shortly after that an ingredient was a substance banned by the league. He reported the infraction to the independent administrator of the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances.
DAYTON, Ohio _ Cincinnati Bengals receiver A.J. Green hurt his left ankle or foot near the end of the team’s first practice and had to be carted off the field. Green appeared to land awkwardly on the foot while trying to catch a pass during a 7-on-7 drill. Coach Zac Taylor had no information about the severity of the injury.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) _ Rory McIlroy fired an 8-under 62 to take a one-stroke lead over Brooks Koepka through three rounds of the FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis. McIrloy had a nine-birdie, one-bogey round to move from a tie for 17th to the top of the leaderboard at TPC Southwind. He closed with three straight birdies before Koepka parred his final three holes to complete a 64 at the World Golf Championships event.
LONG POND, Pa. (AP) _ Kevin Harvick will start from the pole for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup race as he tries to win at Pocono Raceway for the first time in 38 starts. Harvick turned a lap of 174.058 mph to take the pole less than a week after winning at New Hampshire. Harvick helped Ford take the top three spots in the field and will be joined on the front row by reigning Cup champion Joey Logano.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs held their first full squad practice of training camp Saturday at Missouri Western in St. Joseph.
A record crowd came out to watch the Chiefs as there were over 8,000 fans in attendance. It’s the second most to ever watch a training camp practice, but the most ever at a non-Spratt Stadium practice.
The Chiefs will be back on the field Sunday morning at 8:15 at the grass practice fields at Missouri Western.
WICHITA, Kan. – The NBC World Series tournament has released a game time for the Hutchinson Monarchs on Sunday. Hutch will play at 3:30 pm and they will play Wichita based Elite 316. Elite 316 defeated Palm Springs Chill 11-3 in the late contest Saturday night.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals have traded left-handed reliever Jake Diekman to the Oakland Athletics for two minor league prospects amid of flurry of moves before Saturday night’s game against Cleveland.
Kansas City also recalled oft-injured pitcher Kyle Zimmer and first baseman Ryan O’Hearn from Triple-A Omaha. First baseman Lucas Duda was designated for assignment.
Diekman is 0-6 with a 4.75 ERA in 48 relief appearances this season, but he has allowed just one run in his last six outings. He isn’t signed beyond this year, making him an obvious trade candidate.
In return, the Royals got 26-year-old outfielder Dairon Blanco and 20-year-old right-hander Ismael Aquino from Oakland. Blanco is hitting .276 for Double-A Midland while Aquino is 1-1 with a 4.58 ERA in 10 appearances for Oakland’s team in the Arizona Fall League.
