GODDARD, Kan. — It was like the Salthawks never could catch a break Thursday at Eisenhower Field in Goddard.
Hutchinson dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Goddard-Eisenhower 5-1 in Game 1 and 11-1 in the shortened run-ruled late game.
Hutchinson did load the bases in the top half of the 7th in Game 1, but Garrett Davis hit into a game-ending double play. Davis represented the tying run in that inning.
Eisenhower held the Salthawks to one hit in the first game. In Game 2, Hutchinson gave up 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning and could never get on track.
The Salthawks are in action again next Tuesday, April 23, in a doubleheader with Newton. That game will be audio streamed on HutchPost.com.
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Salthawk baseball hoped some home cooking would snap a three-game losing streak, but the Goddard Lions had other ideas.
Facing what may have been the strongest competition this season, Goddard made quick work of Hutch High in Game 1 and won 11-0 by run rule. Hutchinson stranded a couple of runners in each of the first two innings and couldn’t throw strikes as Goddard (8-2) held Hutchinson to only three hits in the first contest.
The nightcap was more competitive. Hutchinson got good relief pitching from Jackson Albert, but fell 12-6. Hutchinson has now dropped five straight dating back to the split with Derby last week.
Hutchinson hopes to regain its winning ways versus Goddard Eisenhower on the road Thursday afternoon.

MAIZE, Kan. —The Maize Eagle proved that the 3rd inning was owned by them again in both games of the doubleheader vs Hutch High Friday as the Eagles swept two from the Salthawks, 7-1 and 6-4 in the nightcap. Hutchinson scored in the top half of the 1st inning on a double by Jackson Wells that drove in centerfielder Korey Holmberg, but that was short lived as Maize scored in the bottom of the 1st to tie the game at 1-1. Then Maize hung 5 runs on in the 3rd and sailed to a 7-1 win in game 1. Game 2 was very similar with Maize scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd aided by a couple fielding errors, but Hutchinson closed the gap and only trailed 5-4 going to the bottom of the 6th inning. Maize added an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th and made short work of the Salthawks in the 7th to earn their 6th win of the season. Game 2 final score was Maize 6, Hutchinson 4.
Hutch falls to 3-5 on the season, while Maize goes to 6-4. Hutchinson plays host to Goddard on Tuesday, April 16th for a doubleheader with game 1 beginning at 4:30 pm at Hobart-Detter Field in Carey Park. Those games will again be audio streamed on Hutchpost.com powered by mixlr.com.
Charlotte, NC – For the second consecutive year, the NJCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Basketball Selection Show will be streamed live via multiple platforms on Monday, March 11. The women’s show will air at 10:00 AM CST while the men’s show will air at 11:30 PM CST.
The live show, hosted by Robert Williamson of JockJive Sports will feature bracket reveals, on-air analysis, highlights, exclusive interviews, and in-depth information about each tournament. Both tournaments feature 24 teams – 16 autmoatic district qualifiers and eight additional at-large selections which will be announced during the selection show.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutch High’s two choral groups, the Expressives and Harmonics, under the direction of Roger Wilson, will be taking orders for Valentine’s Day singing to you or your loved ones this Thursday.
The songs are $20 and your significant other will also receive a rose. On Thursday, the Expressives will be out singing from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The Harmonics will be out singing from noon to 3 p.m.

A pair of late first-half 3-pointers gave Garden City the momentum it needed to overwhelm the Blue Dragons in the second half as Hutchinson suffered a 93-58 loss to the Broncbusters a Conestoga Arena.
The loss was a historical one for Hutchinson. It was the worst loss against the Broncbusters in the 184 games played. The 35-point loss was also the third-worst loss the Blue Dragons have suffered in program history. Hutchinson was swept by Garden City in a season series for the first time since 2005.
Hutchinson falls to 19-6 overall and 10-6 in the Jayhawk West. The Blue Dragons travel to play at Pratt on Monday night. Garden City improves to 10-15 and 5-11.
The Blue Dragons had leads as large as five points in the first half, leading 21-16 with 8:03 to play in the half. Two James Rojas free throws with 5:47 left matched the largest advantage. The Blue Dragons went scoreless for 3 minutes and their lead dwindled to 30-29. Garden’s Claiborne Kyles hit a 3-pointer to take a 32-30 lead. A Malique Jacobs basket tied the game at 32, but Kyles struck again from distance with 18 seconds left to give Garden City a 35-32 lead at halftime.
Garden City scored the first five points of the second half and build a 44-37 lead with 17:14 to go. The Busters then surged with a 12-0 run to lead 56-37 with 14:35 to go.
The Broncbusters went on to outscore Hutchinson 58-26 in the second half shooting 17 of 28 (60.7 percent) with seven 3-pointers.
Rojas led the Blue Dragons with 20 points, including a career-high 3 of 5 from 3-point range. Rojas also had six rebounds. Rheaquone Taylor finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Blue Dragons were held to a season-low point total and shooting 35.5 percent (22 of 62), going only 3 of 14 from 3-point range and 11 of 17 from the free-throw line. The Dragons had a season-low 25 rebounds and was outrebounded 41-25.
Jamir Miller had 19 points on 11 of 12 shooting with three 3-pointers to lead the Broncbusters. Miller added seven rebounds and six assists. Kyles finished 5 of 7 shooting from 3-point range and had 17 points. Russhard Cruickshank had 14 points.
The Busters shot 56.4 percent for the game (31 of 55), hitting 12 of 22 from 3-point range and 19 of 22 from the free-throw line.

GAME NOTES – The worst previous loss to Garden City was 26 points, a 93-67 loss on December 26, 1955. This was Rojas’ seventh 20-point game this season and ninth of his career. The 58 points allowed in the second half was an opponent season high against Hutch. Garden City is just the third team to shoot 50 percent against the Blue Dragons this year. In two games this season, Garden City’s Jamir Miller had 52 points and 19 rebounds against the Blue Dragons.

Hutchinson maintained its share of first place in the Jayhawk West with a dominant 95-53 victory over Garden City at Conestoga Arena to complete the season sweep of the Broncbusters.
Hutchinson improves to 24-1 overall and 15-1 in Jayhawk West play. The Blue Dragons remain tied with Seward County for first place. Garden City falls to 11-14 and 6-10.
The Blue Dragons shot a season-high 59.7 percent (37 of 62), which tied for the sixth-best single-game shot percentage in team history. The Dragons shot at least 53 percent in every quarter.
Defensively, the Dragons limited Garden City to 27.1 percent shooting (16 of 59) and forced 21 Broncbusters turnovers. The Dragons also held the league’s leading scorer, Talia Roberts to 13 points on 5 of 11 shooting with three turnovers.
The Blue Dragons were led by sophomore Jada Mickens, who had a perfect game shooting. Mickens was 8 of 8 shooting and 5 of 5 from the free-throw line for a game-high 21 points.
Dejanae Roebuck finished with 19 points on 7 of 8 shooting and seven rebounds. Roebuck moved up to 16th place on the Blue Dragons career scoring list and is eighth in career rebounds with 504 rebounds.
Abby Ogle had 13 points on 6 of 8 shooting and Tijuana Kimbro had 12 points on 6 of 8 shooting. Makayla Vannett and Keeley Tini had eight points each.
The Blue Dragons had a 58-20 advantage in points in the paint.
Hutch was only 4 of 17 from 3-point range, but hit 17 of 18 free throws. The Blue Dragons had a 43-29 rebounding advantage. The Dragons had 26 assists, but did commit 19 turnovers.
The Busters were 4 of 16 from 3-point range and 17 of 29 from the foul line.
Jaleah Bellany had 11 points for Garden City.
Tied at 4-all early in the game, the Dragons used a seven-point run on a Mickens jumper and an Ogle 3-pointer and steal and layup to build an 11-4 lead with 6:03 to play in the opening period. Leading 11-6, the Dragons outscored Garden City 13-2 over the final 5:33 of the first quarter to lead 24-8.
Hutch opened the second quarter with a 12-1 run to take full control of the game. Two Roebuck free throws helped the Blue Dragons build a 36-9 lead with 5:50 remaining in the second quarter. After an Ogle layup gave Hutch a 40-12 lead, Garden City went on an 11-2 run, but back-to-back inside baskets from Kimbro and Roebuck bumped the Dragon lead to 46-23 at halftime.
Hutchinson shot 56.3 percent in the first two quarters to 25.9 percent for Garden City.
The Blue Dragons have a quick turnaround before a Monday road trip to Pratt for a 6 p.m. matchup with the Beavers.
GAME NOTES – The Blue Dragons are now 70-19 all-time against Garden City, including 30-13 in games played in Garden City. This was all-time victory No. 967 for the Blue Dragons. This was Jada Mickens’ 14th career 20-point game. Hutch had a 21-6 advantage in second-chance points. The Blue Dragons shot 19 of 30 over the final two quarters and outscored Garden City 49-30 in the second half.
