Wisconsin moved into the top 10 for the first time this season, landing at No. 8 in The Associated Press college football poll after a weekend during which seven ranked teams lost.

The top of the AP Top 25 presented by Regions Bank remained mostly unchanged, with Clemson staying No. 1, followed by three Southeastern Conference teams: No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Georgia and No. 4 LSU. Ohio State edged past Oklahoma to No. 5.

Clemson received 55 first-place votes from the media panel. Alabama had six, and Georgia received one.

Auburn moved up a spot to No. 7 after beating Texas A&M 28-20, and Wisconsin jumped five spots to No. 8 after defeating Michigan 35-14. Florida remained No. 9, and Notre Dame slipped three spots to No. 10 after losing 23-17 at Georgia.

Alabama has been ranked for 200 straight weeks, the fourth-longest streak since the AP poll started in 1936.

The Tide’s streak began with the preseason poll of 2008. Alabama joins Nebraska (348, Oct. 12, 1981-Sept. 22, 2002), Florida State (211, Sept. 24, 1989-Nov. 11, 2001) and Florida (209, Sept. 9, 1990-Oct. 5, 2002) with poll streaks of at least 200 appearances.

The middle of the rankings got a big makeover after five teams ranked from Nos. 10 to 19 lost. California was the big mover, jumping eight spots to No. 15. The Golden Bears have their best ranking since they were No. 6 on Sept. 27, 2009.

No. 14 Iowa, No. 16 Boise State, No. 17 Washington and No. 18 Virginia all moved up at least three spots.

DOWN

Several ranked losing teams managed to stay in the rankings.

• No. 19 Utah fell nine spots after losing at USC.

• No. 20 Michigan dropped nine spots.

• No. 22 UCF fell seven places after losing to Pitt, the Knights’ first regular-season loss in almost three years.

• No. 24 Texas A&M slipped six spots but stayed ranked with a 2-2 record. The Aggies have losses to Clemson and Auburn.

OUT

One-and-done teams are common early in the season. Arizona State and TCU both had short stays after debuting in the rankings last week. The Sun Devils and Horned Frogs fell out after losing home games.

Washington State dropped out of the rankings for the first time this season after blowing a 32-point lead at home to previously winless UCLA.

IN

Three teams moved into the rankings but only one for the first time this season.

• No. 21 USC has been in, out and back in the past three weeks.

• No. 24 Kansas State, which did not play this weekend, is ranked for the first time since Sept. 10, 2017.

• No. 25 Michigan State jumped back in after a week out.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs won a showdown between two of the NFL’s top offenses.

The Ravens made them work for it until the very end.

Mahomes threw for 374 yards and three touchdowns in another dazzling performance, Kansas City held quarterback Lamar Jackson in check most of the rain-soaked afternoon, and the Chiefs held on for a 33-28 victory over Baltimore on Sunday.

LeSean McCoy and Darrel Williams combined for 116 yards rushing and a score in place of the injured Damien Williams, while the Chiefs (3-0) stopped the Ravens three times on 2-point attempts.

The last came after Jackson scrambled for a touchdown with 2:01 to go. The conversion would have gotten the Ravens (2-1) within a field goal, but Jackson was shoved out of bounds short of the pylon.

Baltimore tried to get the ball back with a rare dropkick, but the Chiefs calmly called for a fair catch. Then they converted on third down moments later to run out the clock.

Mark Ingram was the Ravens’ biggest bright spot, running for 103 yards and a trio of touchdowns while catching four passes for 32 yards. Jackson finished with 267 yards passing and 46 rushing, most of that when he was trying to rally the Ravens from a big halftime hole.

The Chiefs scored four times in the second quarter for the second consecutive week, this time getting three touchdowns and Harrison Butker’s 42-yard field goal to take a 23-6 lead. They scored four TDs in the second quarter last week in Oakland .

The Ravens actually scored first on Ingram’s touchdown plunge, then they took points off the board when a penalty gave them a shorter try at the conversion. Jackson was stuffed at the goal line in what would become a recurring theme for Baltimore all afternoon.

McCoy, hobbled by a sore ankle all week, gave Kansas City the lead with a touchdown run early in the second quarter. Then, after the Ravens’ turnover on downs, Mahomes lofted a pass to the corner of the end zone that Robinson caught with an incredible one-handed stab .

That highlight was joined by another on the Chiefs’ next possession, when the Ravens blew the coverage and Mecole Hardman was open downfield. The rookie hauled in the heave from Mahomes, then used his 4.3-second 40-yard-dash speed to sprint 83 yards to the end zone.

Ingram sandwiched two more touchdown runs around Mahomes’ third touchdown toss in the second half, and the second one got Baltimore within 30-19 with 12:22 to go. But the Ravens again tried for the 2-point conversion and again came up empty, leaving them in an 11-point hole.

That could have loomed large when Justin Tucker added a field goal. Instead, Williams ripped off a 41-yard run, the Chiefs picked up a couple more first downs, and Butker hit a 36-yard field goal that ultimately put the game out of reach.

MAIZE, Kan. — The Hutchinson High School volleyball team traveled to compete in the Maize Invitational and took third place.

Hutchinson defeated host team Maize 25-19, 25-23 in the first match of the day. In Match 2, it was Garden City defeating the Salthawks 28-26, 25-13. Hutchinson went 25-22, 21-25, 25-20 to win Match 3 over Valley Center. Then in Match 4, the Salthawks fell to Kaupan 13-25, 20-15, then defeated Derby 25-21, 25-17 to capture third place.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Tommy Smith scored in the 85th minute and the Colorado Rapids secured a 3-2 victory over Sporting Kansas City Saturday.

Gerso Fernandes notched the first goal for Sporting Kansas City (10-14-7) in the third minute on a shot 20 yards out from the edge of the box. Smith put Sporting Kansas City on top 2-0 with an own goal in the 14th minute.

Kei Kamara put Colorado (11-15-6) on the scoreboard in the 42nd minute on a shot 17 yards out from the edge of the box, assisted by Jack Price. Diego Rubio tied it at 2-2 for Colorado in the 76th minute with a shot 16 yards away from the center of the box, assisted by Smith.

Smith sealed the victory for Colorado in the 85th minute on a header 19 yards out from the edge of the box, assisted by Price.

The Rapids outshot Sporting Kansas City 19 to 10, with eight shots on goal to two for Sporting Kansas City.

Colorado drew six corner kicks, committed 14 fouls and was given four yellow cards. Sporting Kansas City drew six corner kicks, committed 11 fouls and was given one yellow cards and one red card.

Sporting Kansas City’s next match is Wednesday on the road at Minnesota United, and the Rapids next play Sunday at Dallas.

The Mustangs held on to end a seven-game losing streak in the rivalry and improve to 4-0 for the first time since 1984. The Mustangs never trailed after going ahead 15-0 in the first 10 minutes.

HOUSTON (AP) — Charlie Brewer threw for 303 yards and a touchdown, Denzel Mims caught six passes for 102 yards and the Baylor Bears held on to beat the Rice Owls 21-13 on Saturday night.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) _ Third-ranked Georgia started slowly before Jake Fromm’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Lawrence Cager gave the Bulldogs a 23-10 lead early in the fourth quarter of a 23-17 triumph over No. 7 Notre Dame. It was the only scoring pass of the day for Fromm who completed 20 of his 26 passes for 187 yards and no interceptions. The Irish carried a 10-7 lead into the second half before Divaad Wilson intercepted a pass by Ian Book deep in Notre Dame territory. Two field goals followed before Fromm’s scoring strike put Georgia in control.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) _ Bo Nix threw for a TD and ran for another while eighth-ranked Auburn built a big lead before fending off No. 17 Texas A&M, 28-20. Fellow freshman Joey Gatewood replaced Nix for a few snaps throughout the game and threw his first career touchdown pass in the first quarter. Kellen Mond had 335 yards passing, but Texas A&M’s previously solid running game was held to just 56 yards.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) _ Jonathan Taylor ran for 203 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries to lead 13th-ranked Wisconsin to a 35-14 thumping of No. 11 Michigan. Taylor set the tone by scoring each of his TDs while racking up 143 yards in the first quarter alone, including a 72-yard burst. Jack Coan also ran for two scores as the Badgers dropped the Wolverines to 1-6 on the road against ranked opponents since Jim Harbaugh took over the program in 2015.

UNDATED (AP) _ Top-ranked Clemson and No. 2 Alabama cruised to easy victories. Trevor Lawrence threw for two touchdowns before getting the rest of the night off one play into the second quarter of the Tigers’ 19th straight win, 52-10 against Charlotte. Tua Tagovailoa passed for 293 yards and five touchdowns in just three quarters as the Crimson Tide rolled to a 49-7 victory over Southern Miss.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ Martin Truex passed Kyle Busch with 25 laps to go and earned his second straight NASCAR Cup playoff win by taking Saturday’s race at Richmond. Truex was leading with 87 laps remaining when Ricky Stenhouse Jr. spun him out, allowing Busch to sail by for the race lead. Busch hung on for second and was followed by teammates Denny Hamlin and Erik Jones. Pole-sitter Brad Keselowski was fifth.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Twins closer Taylor Rogers got tagged during a seven-run ninth inning and Minnesota missed a chance to add to its AL Central lead, falling the Kansas City Royals 12-5 on Saturday night.

The Twins remained four games ahead of Cleveland, which lost at home to Philadelphia.

Pinch-hitter Cheslor Cuthbert lined a tiebreaking, two-run homer off Rogers (2-4) to begin the Royals’ big burst. Rogers gave up three runs on three hits while getting just one out.

Rogers has been a big reason the Twins are in first place. He had only allowed one run in his previous 12 outings, and his ERA rose from 2.30 to 2.69 after his appearance.

Randy Rosario (2-0) retired the only batter he faced out of the Kansas City bullpen as the Royals ended a four-game losing streak. They avoided becoming the fourth team in the majors with 100 losses this season.

Ryan O’Hearn, who homered off Minnesota starter José Berríos earlier, started the ninth with a single. After a sacrifice, Cuthbert connected.

Jorge Soler and O’Hearn each finished with three hits.

LaMonte Wade Jr. homered and tripled for the Twins, who had won six of eight.

Berríos was handed a 5-2 lead after Minnesota scored four runs in the fifth off Royals starter Glenn Sparkman. Berríos couldn’t hold the lead as Ryan McBroom had an RBI single and O’Hearn followed with a two-run homer in the sixth.

Berríos allowed five runs in six innings after he had surrendered just two runs over his previous two starts, spanning 14 1/3 innings.

Twins: OF Max Kepler (shoulder) pinch-ran in the eighth inning after missing the previous six games. Kepler has been running the bases and shagging flyballs during batting practice. The shoulder injury bothers Kepler when hitting. … 1B C.J. Cron (bruised thumb) had no issues after starting Friday’s game. It was his first start in five games. He was out of the lineup on Saturday.  Ehire Adrianza (oblique) took groundballs prior to Saturday’s game and is planning to hit off a tee on Sunday.

UP NEXT
Royals: RHP Jorge López (4-8, 5.93 ERA) will start the final road game of the season for Kansas City. He’s allowed four earned runs in 17 1/3 innings over his past three starts, all coming on the road.

Twins: LHP Martín Pérez (10-7, 4.92) will try to improve against the Royals in Minnesota’s regular season home finale. Perez is 0-1 with a 7.02 ERA in three starts against Kansas City this season.

JOPLIN, Mo. – Hutchinson Community College head cross country coach Justin Riggs decided to have his Blue Dragon men into the Missouri Southern Stampede University Division this season to push his sophomores.

Riggs’ sophomores did just what he had hoped they did on Saturday morning at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.

Blue Dragon sophomores Andrew Kibet, Sylvetre Kibarar and Brett Hillabrand led the way for Hutchinson to fourth in the 30-team Stampede University Division.

The Blue Dragons had 190 team points. Missouri Southern won the team title with 56 points. Northwest Missouri State was second with 71 and Alabama-Huntsville was third with 79 points. The Blue Dragons were the only NJCAA team running with the NCAA Division I and Division II runners.

This was the NJCAA Division I seventh-ranked Blue Dragons’ first 8,000-meter race of the 2019 season.

As expected, Kibet, the defending NJCAA national champion, led the way for Hutchinson, finishing fourth with a time of 24:33.92. He was 29 seconds off the individual winning pace.

Kibarar followed with an 8K personal-best time of 24:44.05 to finish fifth overall. Kirabar’s time was sixth-fasted 8,000-meter time in Blue Dragon history.

Hillabrand finished 31st overall with a time of 25:51.42.

Other runners to figure in the scoring for Hutchinson was freshman Teagan Flanagan, who was 49th in a time of 26:14.30. Freshman Austin Lorenzo was 127th in 27:35.47.

Other Blue Dragon runners on Saturday were Jeffrey Klopft (135th,27:42.14), Matthew Schrag (178th, 28:28.17), Zach Haxton (210th, 29:04.58); and Alex Nava (266th, 31:24.37).

The Blue Dragons will run again next Friday at the Emporia State Invitational.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Sophomore midfielder Naomi Waithira had a career-high seven-point night to lead the Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer team to its sixth consecutive victory on Saturday night at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

Waithira tied career highs of two goals and three assists to power the Blue Dragons to a 5-0 Jayhawk West victory over the Pratt Beavers. The Dragons improve to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the Jayhawk West (15 points). Pratt falls to 2-8 and 1-4.

Hutchinson is tied with Cloud County for first place in the Jayhawk West. The Blue Dragons travel to Concordia for a 2 p.m. meeting on Wednesday.

Waithira’s three assists give her 24 career assists. She moved from 12th to eighth on the Blue Dragon career assist list.

Her first assist got the Dragons on the board late in the first half. She fed Charvelle Henry for a goal with 1:52 remaining in the first half for a 1-0 lead.

The flood gates finally opened for Hutchinson with four goals in the second half, and Waithira was right in the middle of the action.

Samantha Vaughn‘s 13th goal of the season was assisted by Waithira for a 2-0 lead with 37:02 to play in the second half.

Waithira made it 3-0 when she blistered a shot from about 25 yards out with 22:20. Macy Smith was credited with the assist. She scored her second goal of the game a little less than 4 minutes later, this time she hammered home a point-blank shot from a Marah Frankeassist for a 4-0 lead.

Franke finished off the scoring when she found the back of the net with 4:53 to go. Henry and Waithira were both credited with assists and Hutch led 5-0.

The Blue Dragons out-shot Pratt 37-2, including 16-1 in shots on goal.

Franke and Henry both had a goal and an assist.

Blue Dragon freshman goalkeeper made only one save, which came off a free kick after a Dragon foul. Now (7-1), she posted her seventh shutout of the season, including six shutouts in a row.

Hutchinson has now put together the third longest scoreless streak in terms of minutes in program history. The current streak is at 557 minutes. The Dragons have produced two longer scoreless streaks of 613 in 2011 and 595 in 2017.

The Blue Dragons are now 13-0 all-time against Pratt. All three wins have been by shutout.
