KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs will kick off the 2019 home slate with a noon battle against the reigning AFC North Division Champions, the Baltimore Ravens, on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Arrowhead Stadium.
Fans can find important information and reminders regarding Sunday afternoon’s game below.
To kick off the 2019 regular season home slate this Sunday, a full-field sized American flag will be drawn across the Arrowhead Stadium playing surface for the duration of the national anthem. Chiefs Red Coaters and select Season Ticket Members will hold the flag, along with players and coaches from both the Chiefs and the Ravens on their respective sidelines.
A special flyover (weather permitting) will be conducted by a B-2 Stealth Bomber from the 509th Bomb Wing, stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base outside of Knob Noster, Mo., coinciding with seven-time Grammy Award nominee Natalie Grant’s performance of the national anthem. Sunday’s color guard execution will be conducted by a joint assembly of Kansas and Missouri National Guard representatives.
The Voices of Service, a group of performers comprised of active and former military members that participated in this season’s “America’s Got Talent,” will perform during halftime of Sunday’s game, being joined on the field by 20 Season Ticket Members holding special star-adorned flags.
The Chiefs will present President & CEO of UnidosUS Janet Murguía with the club’s respective NFL Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award prior to kick off on Sunday. Murguía has selected the Greater Kansas City Hispanic Development Fund to receive the $2,000 donation on her behalf. On top of receiving the award, Murguía will also conduct the game’s ceremonial ‘First Pass’ prior to kickoff.
All fans are reminded that MoDOT has commenced a multi-year construction project on sections of I-435 and I-70. Please be advised that there will be detours on game day at the I-435 and I-70 Interchange for travelers on Southbound I-435 toward Arrowhead Stadium. Parking lot gates for Sunday’s game open at 7 a.m. Fans are encouraged to plan ahead and purchase passes in advance on chiefs.com/parking. Purchasing parking passes in advance is a more cost-effective method and can help expedite entry into the Arrowhead Stadium parking lots. Parking passes can be accessed via the Chiefs Mobile App on game day.
Red Parking passes are $40 when pre-paid online at Chiefs.com and $60 cash only at the tollgates.
All Arrowhead Stadium gates will open at 10 a.m. for the 12 p.m. opening kickoff. Gates for guests with CommunityAmerica Club Level tickets will open at 9:30 a.m.
For the sixth consecutive year, the Kansas City Chiefs will offer a non-denominational pregame chapel service for fans at Arrowhead Stadium who may miss their normal Sunday worship opportunities due to Chiefs games. The service, which is held in the east side of the Pavilion on the south side of Arrowhead Stadium, will take place every week there is a noon home game. Every service will feature a message and supplemental worship beginning at 10 a.m.
The Ford Tailgate District has returned to Arrowhead Stadium for the 2019 season. Located in Lot M outside of the Founder’s Plaza on the north side of the stadium, the free Ford Tailgate District features drink specials, food trucks, tailgating games and live entertainment leading up to kickoff of all Chiefs home games. The Ford Tailgate District will open at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday in Lot M.
Returning in 2019, the STM Kickoff Countdown hospitality tent is an exclusive pre-game area for Season Ticket Members on gameday. Open from 10 a.m. until kickoff, this ticketed event space offers Season Ticket Members complimentary hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks. Located between Gate G and the Hy-Vee Gate on Plaza Level, the tent also features a DJ, photobooth and appearances by KC Wolf and the Chiefs Cheerleaders. GEHA Drum Deck
New in 2019, the club has introduced an exciting new space to add to the Arrowhead Stadium gameday experience, the GEHA Drum Deck. Located below the west scoreboard in the upper level, the GEHA Drum Deck is a new, permanent site for two gameday traditions – the Drum Honoree and the Tony DiPardo Spirit Leader. Kansas City Chiefs all-time leading rusher Jamaal Charles will serve as Sunday’s Drum Honoree and GEHA President & CEO Darren Taylor will be this week’s Tony DiPardo Spirit Leader.
The new GEHA Drum Deck takes an exciting and important part of the gameday experience from the field level and elevates it to a more prominent position in the stadium, bringing fans in the upper level closer than ever before to a pair of special Arrowhead traditions.
To help celebrate the franchise’s 60th season, the Kansas City Chiefs introduced the Lamar Hunt Legacy Seat at Arrowhead Stadium. For each home game in the 2019 season, the club will select one honoree who embodies the spirit of Lamar Hunt and represents the four pillars of the Chiefs Mission: Win with Character, Unite our Community, Inspire our Fans and Honor Tradition.
The two gold seats are located in Section 121 of the lower bowl, symbolically positioned under Lamar Hunt’s name in the team’s Ring of Honor. Sunday’s honoree is Connor Hill, a passionate 12-year-old Chiefs fan and proud representative of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City.
In 2012, Connor was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma and spent a considerable amount of time at the Ronald McDonald House throughout his treatment process. After numerous rounds of strenuous treatment and surgical procedures, Connor reached remission in June of 2013. Connor and his family unfortunately suffered a return of the cancer five months later, but after undergoing further rounds of treatment, Connor returned to remission and has now been cancer-free for over four and a half years. Connor’s perseverance and strength displayed during his treatment process, and the passion he possesses now when he returns to RMHC-KC to volunteer, embody the spirit and pride of Chiefs Founder Lamar Hunt.
Sunday’s hope opener Hunt Family Foundation 50/50 Raffle will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City. Tickets are three for $5, 10 for $10 and 60 for $20. LAWRENCE, Kan. – For the 14th year in a row, Kansas men’s basketball will be featured four times on ESPN Big Monday, according to the 2020 Big 12 Conference schedule released by the league on Wednesday.
For the 28th-consecutive season, dating back to 1992-93, every game on the Kansas men’s basketball schedule will be televised.
Kansas will have 29 of its 33 contests televised on the ESPN family of networks. Among those 29 games are 10 contests (two exhibitions, four early-season and four Big 12 battles) to be produced by Big 12 NOW and air on ESPN+.
CBS will broadcast two games – Jan. 11 against Baylor in Allen Fieldhouse and Feb. 29 at Kansas State. FOX will televise the Kansas at Villanova game in the Big 12/Big East Challenge on Dec. 21 at 11 a.m. (Central). ABC will air the Kansas at Stanford contest on Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. (Central).
The Big 12 opener for the Jayhawks will be against West Virginia on Saturday, Jan. 4, in Allen Fieldhouse. Kansas will play each conference foe twice in the round-robin format that began in 2011-12. The Jayhawks have won 14 of the last 15 Big 12 regular-season titles and 18 of the 23 since the inception of the league in 1996-97. KU’s 61 overall conference season titles are an NCAA record.
The Jayhawks will debut on this season’s ESPN Big Monday contests on Jan. 27 at Oklahoma State. KU will then host Texas the following Monday, Feb. 3. Kansas closes out its Big Monday appearances by hosting Iowa State on Feb. 17 and Oklahoma State on Feb. 24.
Since the inception of the Big 12 in 1996-97, Kansas is 69-18 all-time on ESPN Big Monday (40-1 at home and 29-17 on the road), including 49-12 under head coach Bill Self (29-0 at home and 20-12 on the road). Additionally, KU has won 33-consecutive Big Monday games in Allen Fieldhouse. Overall, KU has won its last 14 ESPN Big Monday contests.
Kansas released its non-conference schedule in June. It features contests against perennial power Duke to open the regular season on Nov. 5 at Madison Square Garden in New York City in the Champions Classic, and its seventh appearance in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational, Nov. 25-27. Additionally, the Jayhawks will host UNC Greensboro (Nov. 8), Monmouth (Nov. 15), East Tennessee State (Nov. 19), Colorado (Dec. 7) and UW Milwaukee (Dec. 10) in Allen Fieldhouse and Kansas City (Dec. 14) at Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. KU will also host Tennessee in the Big 12/SEC Challenge on Jan. 25.
KU will officially tip off the 2019-20 season with the 35th annual Late Night in the Phog on Oct. 4, in Allen Fieldhouse with festivities slated to start at 6:30 p.m. The event will be also televised on ESPN+.
Ranked in the preseason top-5 by most outlets, Kansas returns three starters and eight letterwinners from last season’s 26-10 team which opened the season No. 1 in the national polls, won the NIT Season Tip Off, finished 12-6 in the Big 12, advanced to the Big 12 Tournament title game and advanced to its NCAA record 30th-consecutive NCAA Tournament.
Senior center Udoka Azubuike (13.4 ppg, 6.8 rpg) and sophomore guards Devon Dotson (12.3 ppg, 3.5 assists per game) and Ochai Agbaji (8.5 ppg) are the three returning starters. Other regular returners include junior guard Marcus Garrett (7.3 ppg), sophomore forward David McCormack (3.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg) and senior forward Mitch Lightfoot (2.4 ppg, 2.9 rpg). McCormack started the final 13 games of the 2018-19 season.
Also back is junior forward Silvio De Sousa who has been cleared to play by the NCAA after missing the 2018-19 season. De Sousa averaged 4.0 points and 3.7 rebounds in KU’s 2017-18 Final Four season.
Kansas welcomes seven newcomers, which includes six freshmen and one senior transfer. Guard Isaiah Moss averaged 9.2 points and 2.9 rebounds last season at Iowa where he graduated and transferred to KU for his final year of eligibility. Guards Christian Braun and Issac McBride were named 2019 Gatorade Player of the Year for Kansas and Arkansas, respectively. Other freshmen include forward Jalen Wilson, guard/forward Tristan Enaruna and guard Michael Jankovich. Guard Dajuan Harris is another addition who will be a redshirt for the 2019-20 season.
The award-winning in-house video unit of Kansas Athletics, Rock Chalk Video, will produce the six Big 12 Now on ESPN+ men’s basketball games. It will also produce Jayhawk Gameday Live, a 30-minute pregame show and a 60-minute postgame show, for every home and away Kansas men’s basketball game day. Those shows will air on ESPN+.
Rock Chalk Video will also produce a simulcast of Hawk Talk, Coach Bill Self’s weekly radio show which will be shown on KUAthletics.com.

The Hutchinson Community College men’s golf team had a strong finish to place in the Top 5 at the NCAA Division II Ryan Palmer Foundation Classic on September 10 in Lubbock, TX.
That finish helped the Blue Dragons start at No. 4 in the first NJCAA Golf Coaches Association Division I rankings of the season, which were released on Thursday.
The Blue Dragons are currently ranked No. in the Bushnell/Golfweek NJCAA Rankings.
The big key to that finish in Lubbock was the fact that Hutchinson was the top-finishing NJCAA team in the field. Moreover, the Blue Dragons finished ahead of perennial national power and District III rival Indian Hills, albeit by one stroke.
Defending national champion Central Alabama is No. 1 in the first rankings of the season. Midland is No. 2, followed by New Mexico Junior college, Hutchinson and Indian Hills.
Other Region VI/District III teams in this week’s rankings are Iowa Western at No. 8, Dodge City at No. 14 and Garden city at No. 14.
The Blue Dragons next compete in the Missouri Southern Fall Invitational at Shangri-La Golf Club in Monkey Island, Oklahoma.
The next fall rankings will be October 17.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Mark Canha hit an RBI double with two outs in the 11th inning and the Oakland Athletics edged the Kansas City Royals 1-0 to hold their lead atop the AL wild-card race. The Athletics, who have won seven of eight, began the day two games ahead of Tampa Bay for the top wild-card spot. Cleveland was a half-game behind the Rays. Starters Homer Bailey of the A’s and Danny Duffy of the Royals each pitched seven sharp innings.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Pro Bowl left tackle Eric Fisher is headed to Philadelphia to have surgery on his injured groin, leaving the Kansas City Chiefs without their blindside protector for Patrick Mahomes for the foreseeable future. Fisher hurt his groin in practice Friday but tried to play Sunday in Oakland. He only lasted a few plays before Cam Erving replaced him, and Fisher underwent additional testing when he returned to Kansas City.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Adam Wainwright put on another sharp performance while outpitching Max Scherzer, right fielder Dexter Fowler made a sensational catch and the NL Central-leading St. Louis Cardinals beat the Washington Nationals 5-1. Wainwright has won all four of his starts this month, allowing just one earned run in 27 innings. Trailing by four, the Nationals put two on in the eighth. Asdrúbal Cabrera hit a drive that had the distance to leave the park, but Fowler reached far over the wall to make the grab.
UNDATED (AP) — Oklahoma State will try to extend an unprecedented streak at 12th-ranked Texas in the Big 12 Conference opener for both teams. The Cowboys have won their last five games in Austin, something no other team has ever done. Oklahoma State is 3-0 and has national rushing leader Chuba Hubbard. The Longhorns are home for another nationally televised Saturday night game. They lost to LSU in a top-10 matchup before winning last week against Rice in Houston.
LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — A University of Kansas football player is charged with two misdemeanors after his arrest at a Lawrence bar. The Lawrence Journal-World reports sophomore linebacker Thomas Patrick Barrett was charged Tuesday with two counts of contributing to a child’s misconduct. An attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. Police Sgt. Amy Rhoads says Barrett, from Cleveland, Ohio, was arrested on Aug. 31 at the Jayhawk Cafe.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — New coaches Neal Brown at West Virginia and Les Miles at Kansas have turned to young players and other first-time starters to forge winning nonconference records. Now the coaches will see how the fresh faces hold up as the teams prepare to meet for the start of the Big 12 season on Saturday.

UNDATED (AP) _ The New York Yankees were unable to clinch the AL East title following their 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. The Rays avoided elimination in the division race by scoring twice in the ninth and twice in the 11th to beat the Dodgers, 8-7 in Los Angeles. Tampa Bay remains a half-game ahead of Cleveland for the second AL wild card.
UNDATED (AP) _ Minnesota’s lead in the AL Central is down to four games over Cleveland following the Twins’ 3-1 loss to the White Sox. Eight pitchers combined to limit the majors’ top power-hitting team to just three hits, none until the sixth inning. The Indians earned their 16th consecutive win over the Tigers as Yasiel Puig supplied a bases-loaded single with two out in the 10th to complete Cleveland’s 2-1 victory.
UNDATED (AP) _ The Houston Astros picked up their 100th win and Gerrit Cole went over 300 strikeouts for the season in a 3-2 decision over the Rangers. Cole allowed two runs on six hits in earning his 14th straight win and 18th of the season. Yuli Gurriel and Jose Altuve homered for Houston, which locked up a playoff berth and reduced its magic number to two for clinching the AL West.
UNDATED (AP) _ Atlanta has its first three-game skid since mid-July after Bryce Harper’s two-run homer helped the Phillies post a 4-1 victory in Atlanta. Zach Eflin allowed an unearned run and four hits over seven frames as Philadelphia prevented the Braves from padding their nine-game lead over Washington atop the NL East. Atlanta’s magic number remains two.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes began the season with what many viewed as the best collection of offensive talent in the NFL, whether that was at the skill positions or along the offensive line.
That certainly won’t be the case on Sunday.
The Chiefs quarterback will be missing Eric Fisher for the foreseeable future after the Pro Bowl left tackle flew to Philadelphia on Monday to undergo surgery on a core muscle injury.
The Chiefs said Fisher hurt his groin in practice late last week, and he lasted just three snaps in Sunday’s victory over Oakland before spending the rest of the game on the sideline.
Kansas City already is without All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill for at least another month because of a broken collarbone, and top running backs LeSean McCoy (sprained ankle) and Damien Williams (knee bruise) join the cast of Chiefs on the sideline for Sunday’s home opener against Baltimore.
Not that Mahomes — who sprained his ankle Week 1 in Jacksonville — appears to be concerned about the prospects of a bunch of backups around him in a matchup of 2-0 teams.
“Those guys have worked as hard as anyone to be ready for their opportunity, and you saw that last week,” Mahomes said, alluding to the breakout performances by wide receivers Demarcus Robinson and Mecole Hardman. “I have the same trust with everybody on this team. I have trust that we’re going to have those guys ready to play on Sunday.”
It’s not as if the backups are a bunch of bums, either.
Cam Erving, a first-round pick of the Browns in 2015, filled in admirable at left tackle when Fisher left the game. The Chiefs gave him a nice contract for a backup offensive lineman just for this purpose: He can play just about anywhere up front in the case of an injury.
“I thought Cam did a good job” against the Raiders, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “He had a solid game. He started off with a little shaky one there at the beginning but he finished it real well.”
Robinson merely caught all six passes thrown his way for a career-best 172 yards and two scores, both coming in a four-touchdown second quarter in Oakland. Hardman, the Chiefs’ initial pick in April’s draft, caught four passes for 61 yards and his first career touchdown.
They were so effective along with tight end Travis Kelce that the Chiefs didn’t even need much from Sammy Watkins, who had nine catches for 198 yards and three touchdowns in Jacksonville.
But if the Chiefs are confident in their backups along the offensive line and at wide receiver, they may be a little nervous in the backfield.
They signed McCoy a week before the season started in part to address their concerns, and now they could be down their top two running backs.
McCoy worked out a bit on Wednesday while Williams took practice off.
If neither can go Sunday, the Chiefs would run with journeyman backup Darrel Williams and sixth-round draft pick Darwin Thompson.
Williams beat out veteran Carlos Hyde for a roster spot in training camp but has appeared in just eight career games, while Thompson has a single carry for a single yard during the first two games of his professional career.
“I’m good with Darrel. Thompson, I feel like I know what he’s doing. I feel good about it,” said Reid, who also dismissed any concerns over the 5-foot-8 rookie’s ability to be an every-down back.
“I was around Brian Westbrook for a number of years and they’re the same size. He’d come up and fill it as good as anybody. This kid is wired the same way. He’ll come up there and stick it,” Reid said. “He’s young so he hasn’t seen everything there is to see, but he’s getting there.”
The way injuries are mounting in Kansas City, he had better arrive in a hurry.
NOTE: Reid declined to discuss rumors that the Chiefs could be a landing spot for disgruntled Jacksonville CB Jalen Ramsey, saying that GM Brett Veach handles all of those issues. “He allows me to concentrate on the football part of it,” Reid said. “The speculation, I don’t go there.” Chiefs P Dustin Colquitt will appear in his 225th game Sunday, breaking the franchise record held by OL Will Shields. “He was an every-down-but-fourth guy,” Colquitt quipped, “and I’m a fourth-down guy.”
COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) — Derek Watt and J.J. Watt have played against each other in the yard of their parents’ home in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
There will be bigger stakes on Sunday when Derek and the Los Angeles Chargers host the Houston Texans and his All-Pro older brother.
It will be the first time J.J. has played against either of his two brothers. When the Chargers faced the Texans in 2016, Derek’s rookie year, J.J. was sidelined with a season-ending back injury. J.J. also missed the Texans’ 2017 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, where youngest brother T.J. is a linebacker, because of a broken leg.
IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 will open the 2019-20 men’s basketball conference season on Saturday, January 4. The first game tips off at 11 a.m. CT with a full day of action throughout the evening.
The double round-robin format will conclude on Saturday, March 7 leading into the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship to be contested March 11-14 in Kansas City’s Sprint Center.
All 90 league contests are slated for telecast. A total of 62 games will be carried on an ESPN platform with one game on ABC and three on the Longhorn Network. The ESPN telecasts will include the Conference’s traditional “Big Monday” games. CBS will televise four Saturday afternoon matchups.
Twenty games will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. The new Conference platform features hundreds of live events in addition to other original content. Fans can register for the subscription service at ESPNPlus.com.
The Big 12 is coming off a season in which Texas Tech finished as national runner-up while Texas won the NIT, and 90% of Conference teams competed in postseason play.
