Lena Miller, 86, died Saturday, December 16, 2017, at her home. She was born October 7, 1931, in Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse and Anna (Hershberger) Shetler.

She was a member of Cedar Crest AM Church. Lena was a homemaker and independent distributor for Shaklee.

On October 7, 1962, she married Vernon ‘Vern’ J. Miller in Hutchinson. He survives. Also surviving are: children, JoAnn Brenneman and husband Lowell of Falkville, AL, Conrad and wife Arlene of Arlington, KS; sisters, Alta Yutzy of Hutchinson, Mary Jane Miller and husband Ed, Clara Shetler, Ruth Ann Shetler, all of Kalona, IA; brothers, Dennis Shetler of Kalona, Iowa, Phil Shetler of Irwin, Ohio; and twelve grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Paul, John, Harley and Albert Shetler.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Cedar Crest AM Church, 7213 West Mills Avenue, Partridge. Burial will be in West Center Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the church Monday, December 18, 2017. Gary L. Rosiere, of Hutchinson, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, retired from the United States Army in 1993 and from the Hutchinson Correctional Facility in 2015, died Friday, December 15, 2017. He was born February 3, 1949, in Joplin, MO, the son of Max and Betty Rosiere.

On May 5, 1967, Gary married the love of his life, Linda Bayless, in Miami, OK, and they spent 52 beautiful years together.

Gary was devoted to his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He proudly served with the Green Berets and served in the 82nd Airborne Division. Gary was a tribal member of the Seneca-Cayuga Nation.

He was preceded in death by: his father, Max Rosiere; brother, Ronald Rosiere; sister, Judy Peter; and father-in-law and best friend, Kenny Bayless.

Gary is survived by: wife, Linda, of the home; mother, Betty Rosiere of Seneca, MO; mother-in-law, Helen Bayless of Hutchinson; sons, Krystofer Rosiere and partner Jose Rubio, Kenny Rosiere, Jeremy Rosiere and wife Crystal; grandchildren, Caitlin Rosiere, Victoria Rosiere, Alexander Rosiere, Joshua Rosiere, Stephany Rosiere, and Brittany Rosiere, all of Hutchinson.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at Elliott Chapel, with Reverend Richard G. Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Burrton Cemetery, with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Robert Lee ‘Bob’ Huffman, formerly of Wichita, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. He was born October 20, 1923, in Hutchinson, the son of Mary Miller Huffman. Bob served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 and received the EAME Theater Ribbon and two Bronze Stars. He worked as a supervisor for Vickers and Hudson Oil Companies in Wichita until his retirement. Bob was a member of Hutchinson Reno AF & AM Lodge #124 and the Reno County Shrine Club.

On July 3, 1939, he married Viola Mae Banks. She died March 25, 2015. They shared 75 years of marriage.

Bob is survived by: daughters, Sonja Pirisky and husband Jack of Henderson, Nevada, and Rachel Hornbeck and husband Wayne of Hutchinson; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; six brothers; and three sisters.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no services.

Katherine Alice Welliver, 103, of Hutchinson, died Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society, Hutchinson Village. Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, is in charge of arrangements.

Dwight Lee Edison Gwaltney, 92, of Hutchinson, left the loving care of his earthly family to be reunited with his heavenly family on December 12, 2017. He passed peacefully at Hospice House, Hutchinson. Dwight was born March 6, 1925, to Dwight Lee ‘Dock’ and Zola Marie (Louthian) Gwaltney, in Bluefield, WV.

On June 20, 1948, he married June Dae Lesh. Three children were born to them: Dwight Lee ‘Rick’, Julie Esther, and Mark Alan.

Dwight was preceded in death by: his wife on July 20, 2006; sons, Rick on November 9, 2011, and Mark on August 8, 2017; parents; and six siblings.

He is survived by: daughter, Julie E. Weigel and husband Craig of St. John; companion of eleven years, Marsha Wierman of Hutchinson; Mark’s wife, Tami Gwaltney of Lawrence; Rick’s wife, Patricia Gwaltney of Manhattan; sister, Sarah Behrens of Denver, CO; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He graduated from Fulton High School, Peachbottom, PA, at the age of 15, in 1940, and shortly after served in the 10th Mount Division’s Engineer Combat Division in the Po Valley Apennines Mountain, Italian theatre during WWII.

After the war, he worked heavy machinery at Granite Canyon, WY, and then farmed in Hereford, CO, from 1952 until 1963. In 1963, the family moved to Cheyenne, WY, and he sold A.O. Smith Harvestore silo systems. In 1969 he moved to Hutchinson, to work for another dealership where he became one of their top salesmen. Later he sold Roto Mix feed trucks until retiring in 1996 to care for his wife after her stroke until her death in 2006.

Dwight was a member of Shriners, past Master of Masonic Lodge #124, and American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68. In January 2007, he met his personal angel, Marsha Wierman and they were companions until his death.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017, at First Congregational Church, 3410 N. Plum, with Pastor Matt Stafford officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may sign his book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Family will greet friends from 1 p.m. Saturday until service time at the church.

Floyd Elliott Lyman, 100, of Hutchinson, died peacefully and naturally on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, in Lawrence, after a full and blessed life. He was born April 2, 1917, to Chester and Amanda (Noyes) Lyman. Floyd was preceded in death by: his parents; siblings, Burton, Dorothy, Virginia, Warren and Helen; his first wife, Ernestine; daughter, Rebecca; grandson, Michael Charles; second wife, Moretha; and stepdaughter, Marilyn.

Floyd was a lifelong resident of Hutchinson. He was a 1934 graduate of Hutchinson High School. During this period of life, Floyd was very active in tennis and became the Hutchinson City Champion. In 1942, Floyd joined the United States Army and became a Captain at Camp Hood in Texas. He was stationed in the Philippines when WWII ended and was part of the team that closed down some of the North Pacific bases, along with their equipment. That team also organized the return back to Japan of many Japanese prisoners of war.

In 1946, Floyd met and married a high school classmate, Ernestine Mettlen. Together, they had six children: three boys and three girls. Their family continued to grow over the years and now includes five grandkids and seven great-grandkids. While raising his family, Floyd was employed by Colladay Hardware Company as a buyer for 34 years. He was very proud of being a part of a team growing Colladay into a large regional wholesaler. After 36 wonderful years together, Ernestine passed away in 1983.

In 1985, Floyd was twice blessed and married Moretha Miller, a classmate of Floyd’s sister. He welcomed her daughters, Anne, Marilyn, Jeanne, and Patty into his family. Floyd and Moretha had a wonderful relationship together and enjoyed traveling and visiting their extended family. Floyd also enjoyed playing golf, playing his last round at age 94. He was an avid KU and Hutchinson Blue Dragon fan all of his life. After 28 loving years together, Moretha passed away in 2013. Floyd continued to live at Wesley Towers until the fall of 2017, when he moved to Lawrence to be with family.
