ELBING, Kan. — The Trinity Catholic volleyball team got a pair of wins at Berean Academy Tuesday night.
The Celtics downed Bennington 2-0, then followed that up by downing Berean 2-0.
Trinity is now 9-10 on the season. Up next is a road match at Hoisington Oct. 11.
SALINA, Kan. — It was a good night for the HHS volleyball team as the Salthawks took a pair of matches from Salina high schools. The Hawks swept both Salina South and Salina Central 2-0.
The pair of wins move the Hawks to 16-12 on the season. They’ll see plenty of good teams this weekend when they play at the McPherson Invitational on Saturday.
ANDALE, Kan. — The Buhler volleyball team suffered two losses on the road Tuesday night, dropping a pair of three-set matches to Wellington and Andale.
Faith Kretzer led the way for the Crusaders with 17 kills on the night. Sierra Sherry added eight more kills as the Crusaders fell to 13-9 on the season.
The Crusaders take on a very good Chanute squad in their first match of the El Dorado Invitational on Saturday.
SALINA, Kan. — Last week, the HHS soccer team won two 1-nil contests. But one goal was not enough Tuesday as the Hawks were handled by Salina Central 6-1.
Mondell Toney scored the lone goal for Hutchinson. Francisco Villanueva ended the evening with seven saves.
The Hawks return to action Thursday when they host Derby at the Salthawk Sports Complex.
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Reno County Chamber of Commerce is taking the wishes of teachers and local companies seriously when it comes to connecting the two entities.
Back in July, school administrators, teachers, advisers and company leaders all came together for a town hall on connecting students to these companies and teaching them the skills needed for success.
On Oct. 15, 51 teachers and advisers from the Buhler school district will tour three local companies to discuss ways to connect students with opportunities in the workplace and to ensure a future workforce for the area.

The group will visit Collins Bus, Superior Boiler Works and Kuhn Krause during the day. Teufel says she hopes to schedule other companies and school districts for similar meetings in the future.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A three-game winning streak and a second victory over a nationally-ranked opponent have vaulted the Hutchinson Community College football team into the national Top 5.
The Blue Dragons are now No. 5 in the latest NJCAA Football rankings, which were released on Tuesday. The Dragons moved up two spots in this week’s rankings after a 27-13 victory at No. 12 Butler on Saturday.
This is the first week that the NJCAA Football Computer Rankings are represented in the poll. The computer rankings comprise 25 percent of the points amassed for each team. The other 75 percent comes from the 17-member voting committee.
Hutchinson enters the NJCAA Top 5 for the first time since the final poll of the 2014 season when the Blue Dragons finished No. 4 in the nation. The Blue Dragons started the 2018 season as a team receiving votes, but have steadily worked their way up the rankings while building a 5-1 overall record and a 3-0 mark in the Jayhawk Conference.
Hutchinson is 2-1 against nationally-ranked teams this season with victories over No. 5 Independence and No. 12 Butler — both games on the road. The only loss was a nine-point setback to the team just ahead of the Blue Dragons in this week’s rankings, Iowa Western, which defeated the Blue Dragons 33-24 on Sept. 8 at Gowans Stadium.
Now the Blue Dragons will face their fourth ranked opponent of the season on Saturday at Gowans as the No. 13 Highland Scotties come to Hutch for a noon kickoff. Highland is 4-1, winning 21-18 at Iowa Central on Saturday.
For the third-straight week, East Mississippi captured all 17 first-place votes. Northwest Mississippi moves up to No. 2. Those two teams play each other Thursday night at Northwest Mississippi.
Garden City is now No. 3, then Iowa Western and Hutchinson.
Butler fell seven spots after its lost to Hutchinson to No. 19.

HAYSVILLE, Kan. — The Hutch High tennis team ended up in fifth place at the AVCTL league meet held Monday in Haysville.
In singles, Sydnee Foster led the way with a league championship. Foster lost just five games on the day. Caroline Fee did not fare as well and settled for 14th. In doubles, the team of Lauren Ollenburger and Chloe Foster finished in ninth, while Emilee Railsback and Gracie Foster finished 11th.
The Salthawk netters are at the regional meet this weekend in Dodge City.

VALENTINE, Neb. — Freshman Peyton Austin shot a Blue Dragon low round of 75 as the No. 10-ranked Hutchinson Community College men’s golf team finished the second round in 12th place on Monday at the Prairie Club.
Only 1 of 2 NJCAA teams playing in the predominately heavy NCAA Division I Field, the Blue Dragons shot 307 on Monday and is at 610 for two rounds. The final round is Tuesday.
Austin shot a 75 on Monday and is the Blue Dragon low golfer through 36 holes at 7-over 151.
Nathan McCulloch is tied for 43rd at 152 after a 78 on Monday.
Charlie Crockett is tied for 47th at 153 after shooting a 76 in the second round.
Charlie Herbert struggled to a 79 on Monday and is 53rd at 155.
J.T. Engelbart had a nine-stroke improvement from Sunday, shooting 78. He tied for 70th at 165.
Lake Leroux, playing as an individual this week, had the best round of any Blue Dragon on Monday. He shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for 43rd at 152.
WICHITA, Kan. — The Trinity Catholic tennis team ended up with fifth place out of nine teams at the CPL league meet held Monday at Wichita State University.
The Celts were led by the number 2 doubles team of Jaimie Enslinger and Maggie Vinduska in third place. The number 1 doubles team of Gracie Diaz and Noelle Graham ended up with fourth. In singles, Caeli Clenna finished sixth in number 1 singles, while Hayley Hughes ended up with seventh in number 2 singles.
The Celtics have regionals Friday at Conway Springs.
CHENEY, Kan. — The Buhler Crusader golf team had to settle for fourth place out of a field of seven teams in the AVCTL Division III and IV meet held at Cherry Oaks in Cheney.
Andale easily won the meet with a team total of 336. Augusta was second and Winfield third.
Buhler was led by Haley Miller’s seventh-place finish with a score of 90. Lauren Specht finished 17th and Taylee Vieyra 19th in a playoff. Both shot 107. Kate McPherson and Ashton Schultz both carded a score of 108 and finished 20th and 21st, respectively. Hayley Engellend rounded out the field with a 23rd place finish with a 109.
