Cosmosphere to study drone technology

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Cosmosphere passerbys have probably noticed a small structure across the street to the south of the museum. The small structure will be the next step in science and study for the Cosmosphere.

The Cosmosphere is teaming up with the University of Kansas School of Engineering to study the use of drones.

Tracy Tomme, Executive Vice President and C.O.O. of the Cosmosphere, talked about the entry into drone technology:

Tomme says the “Drone Drome” was necessary so drones could be flown in a safe environment:

Tomme says KU is funding the program and is lending a hand in developing uses for the small drome:

While the structure is currently called the Drone Drome, the Cosmosphere is holding a friendly contest to see who can come up with a catchy name for the small, portable building. When the contest starts, residents can submit names on the Cosmosphere Facebook page or at cosmo.org. The winning name will be announced during the drome’s kickoff event in August.
