South Hutch man sentenced to over 12 years in distribution cases

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 34-year-old South Hutchinson man who entered pleas in a number of drug cases was sentenced Thursday to 12 1/2 years in prison.

Mobley

Lucas Mobley and his attorney argued for corrections and drug treatment after his conviction on 14 counts.

The cases span two years with the first distribution case occurring on Sept 19, 2016, and the last on Dec. 5, 2017. It’s that case in particular that bothered District Judge Tim Chambers. In that case, Mobley pointed a sawed-off shotgun at a South Hutchinson Police officer. The officer demanded Mobley to drop the weapon five times before he finally did. Judge Chambers noted that he’s lucky to be alive.

Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton brought all of the evidence from the cases to the courtroom. The evidence included a large bag of methamphetamine and all the weapons from the various cases. Stanton argued that, if there was any defendant that deserved a prison sentence, it was this one.

Mobley’s attorney, Shannon Crane, argued for corrections and drug treatment. Crane said officials need to start working on the underlying problems of drug addiction. Crane said there has never been any intervention to help Mobley during that two-year period.

In the end, Judge Chambers denied any departure and ordered the sentence to be served.
