HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Two men from Kingman arrested on Feb. 28 were before a judge Thursday morning and charged with arson.

Twenty-two-year-old Tucker D. Simon and 20-year-old Duncan P. Frankhauser were both jailed for setting the fire. The state alleged the fire was set to defraud the lien holder and an insurance company.
Both were arrested after residents in the 1000 block of East 13th in Hutchinson reported a truck on fire. Witnesses saw someone throw something into the truck’s cab, hop into a getaway vehicle and flee the scene.
Officials arrived at the scene and found the cab of the truck on fire. A short time later, a Reno County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted a truck matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle at IHOP, near the mall.
Officers were able to make contact with the two men and, according to statements in court, Simon paid Frankhauser $200 to burn the truck, saying he needed the money.
Both men are free on bond. Their cases will now move to a waiver-status docket.
