WICHITA, Kan. — The Historic Delano District and Old Cowtown Museum in Wichita have agreed to host the first Chisholm Trail Conference and Annual Meeting. Organizers have put together a complete slate of historians, speakers, activities, events and entertainment in a special three-day conference. The conference is being held at Old Cowtown Museum from Sept. 12-14, 2019.

“The International Chisholm Trail Association (ICTA) has led the way to recognize the historic and economic importance of the Chisholm Trail to our nation and to the world,” Dennis Katzenmeier, ICTA President, said. “Now we will educate and celebrate with the first Chisholm Trail Conference in Wichita, Kansas,” he said.

Presenters from across the United States will be sharing the history of the great Texas cattle drives from Texas to Canada. “This includes the true history, the stories, the music, the challenges and the adventure of these cattle drovers that made the American Cowboy,” Katzenmeier said.

Although the ICTA acknowledges the importance of all the great cattle trails of the 19th century, the association recognizes the Chisholm Trail as the most widely known cattle trail. Therefore, the ICTA is committed to identifying, preserving, developing, celebrating and promoting the Chisholm Trail for education and heritage tourism through research, publishing and marketing.

The International Chisholm Trail Association invites anyone who is interested in cowboy heritage and the history of the cattle trails to attend the conference and help preserve the trail’s unique history.
