MEDORA, Kan. — Three people at Wifco Steel Products near Medora were injured Thursday morning when a pressurized water tank exploded.

Company President Josh Stubbs tells Hutch Post that the air regulators on the tank failed, allowing more air to enter the system than they wanted. The pressurized air is used to push the water through pipes and the front end of the tank was blown off the tank, injuring three men.

Thirty-four-year-old Peter Atha of Hutchinson was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for treatment where he suffered a fractured jaw and possibly a concussion. He could be released in the next few days.

Twenty-eight-year-old Josh Hull of Hutchinson and 44-year-old Shane Oakley of Wichita were both taken by private vehicles to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment. They were treated and released.

The accident occurred just before noon Thursday.

Stubbs says this is the first accident they’ve had where someone was injured in 13 months. The other cases were not to this extent.
