HUTCHINSON, Kan. — As we reported last month, the Hutchinson USD 308 School District is proposing some minor changes to its elementary school boundaries. The renovation of the Wiley Building into apartments could mean a shift in where students live south of 3^rd Avenue, and that could cause some overcrowding problems. The district has scheduled meeting to provide input to the USD 308 Board of Education on the proposed boundary change. The meeting will be July 14 at 6 p.m. at the Administration Center, 1520 North Plum. District families and patrons are invited to the meeting. A majority of Board members also may attend this meeting.

The proposed area is bounded on the south by Sherman, on the west by Main, on the north by the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railway tracks and on the east by Poplar. The area is contiguous with the existing north boundary of Lincoln Elementary School.

Currently, less than 10 USD 308 students in kindergarten through sixth grade live in the outlined area. With the possible addition of new housing in the Wiley Building apartments, that number could increase. The students who lived in the proposed area in 2013-14 will have the option of staying in their old school. While Faris is nearing its student capacity, Lincoln has room for additional students.

Following the public input the meeting, the Board will have its annual organizational meeting at 7 p.m. that evening, also at the Administration Center, 1520 North Plum.
