With the construction of the new K-61 highway north of the city starting up again, that means that 56th St., is closed while they work on that interchange with the new highway. That means that some traffic from 56th is being diverted to 43rd.

You may have seen in the past a light blinking at 43 rd, in the past. Well now, it’s a fully operational light at that intersection. That means when the light turns red, you must stop just like you would at any other stop light.

Kansas Highway Patrol officials tell us that people are going through the light even though its red, or they stop at the light, but then cross through the intersection even though the light is still red.

The Highway Patrol and Reno County Sheriff’s Deputies will be giving tickets for those who fail to observe the light at that intersection, and because its considered a highway work zone, fines would be double.

So, when you come to this intersection, treat it like any other intersection with stop lights and stop and stay stopped until the light turns green, or look to get a ticket.

Also, there is a reduced speed limit in that area of 45-miles per-hour during this construction period. You can be ticketed for that as well and again fines would double.
