HUTCHINSON — The Hutchinson Community College football team returned a regular-season NJCAA football poll Top 10 for the first time in two seasons on Tuesday as the Blue Dragons made five-spot jump in the latest poll released on Tuesday.

Following a 55-10 victory over Fort Scott on Saturday at Gowans Stadium, the Blue Dragons moved to No. 6.

This is the first time that HCC has been ranked in the Top 10 in a regular-season poll since being ranked No. 10 in 2012. This is the highest ranking since the 2013 team opened No. 6 in the preseason poll and it’s the highest ranking for the Blue Dragon since being ranked No. 3 in Week 2 of 2011.

Hutchinson has been ranked now in nine consecutive polls and in 64 of the past 70 NJCAA football polls dating back to 2008.

The Blue Dragons (2-0, 1-0 KJCCC) are the highest-ranked Jayhawk Conference team for the first time since Week 4 of 2009.

The new rankings also mean a Top 10 showdown on Saturday the Blue Dragons take on No. 9 Butler at 7 p.m. in El Dorado.

The Grizzlies took a shocking four-spot drop in the poll after losing 36-30 in overtime at No. 2 Iowa Western on Saturday.

East Mississippi once again garnered all nine first-place votes to remain No. 1, but three Top 10 teams from last week all lost – Butler, No. 3 Copiah-Lincoln and No. 6 Navarro College.

Hutchinson and Butler are the only Jayhawk Conference teams to be ranked in the Top 20, but Dodge City and Coffeyville are receiving votes.

Iowa Western is the only ICCAC team ranked or receiving votes this week.
