HFD crews battle brush fire east of Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — While crews were battling the fire in Rice County Wednesday, the Hutchinson Fire Department responded to Highway 50 and Buhler/Haven Road around 5:35 p.m. for a brush fire.

Fire units from Colwich were first on scene. The crew was deployed to Rice County and encountered the brush fire. Crews immediately evacuated a threatened home. Three task forces were established by command as units arrived to contain the fire.

Hutchinson fire crews remained on scene overnight and into this morning containing hotspots to prevent any further ignition sources. The Buhler/Haven Road fire was contained to less than 200 acres.

The Hutchinson Fire Department was assisted on the Buhler/Haven Road fire by the Sheriff‘s Department, Colwich Fire Department, Buhler Fire Department, Halstead Fire Department, Reno County Fire Dist. #9, Burrton Fire Department, and Burrton EMS.

Hutchinson crews are returning to Rice County for day two of the wildland fires as operations continue. Crews were relieved last night around 10 for rest.
