Hutchinson/Reno County Emergency Communications Director Michele Abbott reports due to last night’s thunderstorm, residents in the eastern 1/3 of Reno County may not be able to call 911. This area is roughly east of the Haven/Buhler road, extending into McPherson and Harvey Counties. The thunderstorm effected telephone equipment that provides access to the 911 system. This area is serviced by CenturyLink telephone company and they are working to resolve the problem.
It is unknown the duration of the temporary outage, but cellular telephone service is still available in the area and can be utilized to call 911.
