RENO COUNTY — A 40-year-old Abbyville man was jailed after he failed to stop for a Reno County sheriff’s deputy late Saturday night.

Jacob Salome was seen driving across U.S 50 when he failed to signal while making a turn onto Illinois. The deputy then started following the vehicle and noticed Salome fishtailing. The deputy turned on his lights and siren, but Salome didn’t stop. At one point, the deputy got right on his bumper so he could hear the siren — but again — he failed to stop.

After about three miles, Salome finally pulled over. He was arrested for DUI, driving on a suspended license and felony flee and elude.

In court, Salome told the judge that he didn’t stop because it was dark and he didn’t see the lights. When he finally saw them, he thought it was an ambulance.

Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen declined to lower the bond. Salome will be back in court next week.

Salome was arrested back in March when he allegedly struck another man during an altercation in the county. At the time, Salome denied he struck the man and said the victim was known to injure himself.

The victim says Salome struck him in the head. He was also hit in the ribs with a tree branch.

At the scene, Reno County sheriff’s deputies found blood on the floor of the shed. Deputies also found blood on a tree limb they believe was used in the attack. The victim had injuries to his face and bruising around his rib cage.

That case is still pending.
