Absconder from corrections arrested with “pink” gun in his pants waistband

A 21-year-old Hutchinson man convicted in two cases merged into one, placed on community corrections is in jail again.

Dean Hoffman is jailed on a 75-thousand dollar bond for a probation violation, criminal possession of a firearm, theft or possession of stolen property, and criminal use of a weapon.

He was convicted of obstruction, contributing to a child’s misconduct, criminal threat, aggravated assault, and aggravated intimidation of a witness. He is listed as an absconder from Community Corrections.

Apparently, law enforcement got word that he was at the Pic-Quik at 4th & Plum, and that he may be armed. They came in with force, and had everyone in the vehicle he was in out of the car, and then discovered he had a stolen, “pink,” handgun in the waistband of the pants he was wearing. He was then taken into custody without incident.

Those previous convictions the result of Hoffman hiding a teenage runaway from Great Bend in the basement of his home at 209 West B, this back on May 3, of 2010. He apparently at some point drove the young girl to Great Bend, although initially denied it to police, but later admitted he did take her, but still denied he knew she was a runaway. He told police that he was told by her that she was 17 and emancipated.

Then on May 7, 2010, he had a knife and threatened a female at the home on West B, believing the victim may have been the snitch in the earlier incident. He allegedly tried to force her from a vehicle while holding a knife and allegedly told her, “I better not find you on the streets alone or you’ll be dead.” She testified that he twice tried to get her from the vehicle during that time, once nearly succeeding, and then tried again until he was told to stop by Jordon LeShore.

He should make a first appearance on the new charges Friday morning, and with the new charges, he could see his corrections go away, and ordered to prison.
