Accident injures 66-year-old man in Hutch Wednesday.

A 66-year-old man who was struck while riding his bike is fighting for his life. He has now been identified as Jerry Allen Ybarra, of Hutchinson.

The man was struck by a truck at 4th & Severance just before 3 PM Wednesday. He was initially coded blue which means he was not breathing when emergency personnel arrived, and is reportedly in critical condition now.

Police Traffic Sgt., Brian Hirt said he was struck by a vehicle driven by 37-year-old Jason Dale Collins, also of Hutchinson. Hirt says this occurred in the northern portion of the intersection.

Yabarra was taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center where he was placed in ICU in stable condition with a head injury. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Collins who was driving of the Blue 1992 Dodge Dakota was uninjured.

Hirt says there is no evidence at this time that alcohol was a factor. The collision is still under investigation by the Hutchinson Police Traffic Bureau. He add that no citations have been issued at this time.

Back in February when a Stutzman Refuse truck northbound on Adams struck a bicycle operated by 35-year-old Julian Olea Tomas at 4th & Adams. Tomas was killed as a result of that accident.

And, 58-year-old Robert Schraeder was in the cross walk with a second person when he was hit by an eastbound car driven by 62-year-old Sonya Hase of Hutchinson also back in February.

The vehicle carried the victim on the hood for about 35-feet before coming to a stop. He is still recovering from his injuries.
