A 2-year-old boy was killed and a 5-year-old girl was badly injured and flown to a Wichita hospital after a one vehicle accident in Pratt County Monday morning.
Killed was Craigjohn E. Vanzandt and badly injured was 5-year-old Vavaeh Smallwood, both of Turon. Smallwood was flown to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for treatment of injuries. Suffering only minor injuries was the driver, 27-year-old Ginny Coates and 6-year-old Jessica Coates, both also of Turon. They were taken to Pratt Regional Medical Center, treated and released.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Coates was east-bound on K-61 highway and for an unknown reason left the roadway on the right hand shoulder. She then over corrected, entered the roadway and made an evasive maneuver. Her GMC then rolled three times and came to rest facing north on the right hand shoulder.
No one in the vehicle were in any kind of safety restraints according to the highway patrol report.
The accident occurring around 10:20 a-m, Monday morning about a mile and half north of Preston.
