TURON – Three people were taken to area hospitals after a one vehicle accident in western Reno County.

It was reported around 7:00 a-m, when Reno and Kingman County Emergency officials were dispatched to the roll over accident in the area of Brownlee Rd. and Maple Grove Rd. in far southwestern Reno County.

The driver, 19-year-old Erik Rivera of Turon said he was driving a 1993 Ford Ranger pickup, southbound on Brownlee Rd. when two deer came out of the west ditch. He also said the fog was so heavy that he did not see the deer until the last second, and he tried to avoid them but lost control of the vehicle and started sliding sideways and struck the deer on the passenger side. The vehicle continued going into the east ditch and it rolled several times.

Besides Rivera, there were two passengers in the vehicle, 19-year-old Kandy Carper and 38-year-old Elizabeth Osenbaugh both of Turon.

Rivera and Carper were both transported by Kingman E-M-S to Kingman Community Hospital with undetermined injuries. They were not wearing seatbelts.

Osenbaugh was ejected from the vehicle and was transported by Reno County E-M-S to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center and then later transferred to a Wichita hospital with serious injuries the extent of which are unknown.

Sheriff officials say the investigation is on going.
